How dumb am I....?

Do you wanna hear how dumb I am? Well, I was playing around with my D800 when I noticed a little lever on the left hand side of my viewfinder. Curious, I pushed the lever up and up came a silver-metal divider that closed off the viewfinder from getting any light in it! All this time I've been using my hand to cover the viewfinder when I'm taking long exposures and now I find I could have simply lifted up the divider and been done with it.

I guess as long as I'm learning something new, I shouldn't complain, eh?

Yup. I've been using the curtain feature since I had a D700. The D600 doesn't have one though.

so far, never found a situation where the light leak has an effect, so I just ignore it.

great feature! I use the provided slide on cover on my D7000 lots and lots but removing the rubber viewfinder surround first is a bit irritating, but not life threatening!
