California Grey Whales

Just south of the golf course is the Torrey Pines Glider Port. You can look out over La Jolla Shores from these cliffs. Here's an ~180 panorama of the spot on the cliffs to give you an idea of how what the glider port looks like.

I was there today with my son and was lucky enough to see migrating California Grey Whales. Although there are a lot of migrating whales off the coast of CA, seeing them this close to shore is fairly rare, especially since there is very thick kelp beds just off the coast. About all you can see are the puffs of water/air from them coming up for a breath. I took about 30 photos of the spouts and I was fortunate enough to capture a tail of what I presume is a juvenile whale.

That is a real treat and one i'm not ever likely to see. If we can ever stop them being hunted, maybe there will be a few left for the next generations to marvel at
