wud - once in a blue moon thread

Hello and happy new year, all! Sorry I haven't been around for a long time but school, work, dogs, life and friends had me. I am doing good, and still so very amazed, that I actually go to this spectacular photography school. You probably wanna know what I've learned so far, but honestly I can't say at the time.... It all happens so quick and we have so many different teachers (all photographers), and we learn by doing. And get teached, when we present our stuff.

But. This week is about printing, and I realized, I only been shooting school assignments or images for clients the last 6 months, more or less, lol. Not good. Hopefully I will do more of my own stuff, this year.

The lack of something to print, did get me out today - also, finally a day with some sun (we got grey winter here). The car is mine! Yes, it could have been placed better :-D

Merry Christmas to you Mia and I am so pleased to hear your photographic education continues. Post something you have recently printed and share with us the printing details. You know how, that I for one, feel that the printed photo is the desired end of all my own photography and I am still so happy to have one of your photos in my office. In fact, I can see it from where I sit at my computer.

There's no blue moon in that photo? :)

Good to hear you're still alive and school is going well.

There is not! It was more like... images in this thread will come once in a blue moon  We did have red moon (blood moon we call it) a while ago, though, it was really pretty. I didn't take an image though, I just got up to watch.

Hope you and your wife are good too :)

Yeah, I knew their would be no blue moon, but I think that my trying to be funny may have gotten a little lost between my American language to your Danish translating of it into real English (not what us American speak) and back on to the forum. :)

Wife and I are doing great.

It's nice to see your thread, Mai! Welcome back--and when you have time, it would be great to hear more about your classes. :)

At least I'm laughing now

Yes! But we dont really have classes, like in high school etc. A photographer intruduce us to his/her work, he/she talk about the genre, how they work maybe. And then we get assignments, and when going through the images we have made, we get feedback. Straigthen the lines, make your subject do xxx and so on. Some weeks we make images from day to day, others we have a week for a project (including research and tests).

Printing are of course more technical and I'll get back about that :)

I like this shot! I'd really like to see it without the car and the sun even lower than it is!! Keep up the good work; I'm envious that you are attending a photography school.

@RON

So what I learned about printing, you might already know, but - in Photoshop, go to View -> Proof Setup -> Custom
Here you can see what happens, if you use the rendering intent, mostly Relative Colorimetric + black point compensation or Perceptual are used. Some images you see a big difference, some almost nothing.

In Photoshop print menu, you can do the same after choosing the right paper, to simulate how the print will be :)

Also I learned, the print menu are a good place for making a white frame, just scroll down to Position and Size, and change the Scaled Print Size. Remember to click Position -> Center.

It is always good to be able to review your photos several different ways before printing. I use Aperture to edit but follow a somewhat different procedure but always have pretty good luck with my prints

Hi. Sadly, we said goodbye to our oldest (Young) dog this morning, he was sick and treatment didn't work. I'm so very sad and been crying all day, gonna miss him way to much :( He has been such a big part of my life the last 6+ years, and he was truly special.

Just a mobile pic, but look how adorable he was

So sorry to hear this, Mai. Pets hold a special place in our hearts, and because they love unconditionally makes it even more difficult to say goodbye. And of course, you have a special gift when it comes to animals anyway. No doubt he loved you immensely, too.
