January 8, 2016 #8. Today it was raining around here so I could not really get out. I saw some black smith shots by Horoscope Fish and I remembered a dear old friend Dave Cox. Dave is gone now but he was a disabled vet... but to supplement his income he forged his knives out of saw blades and files. There was a time when I stayed well armed and Dave knew I had a thing for his knives so every so often a few minutes after I got home from work Dave would be on the back porch with something he thought might interest me. I would go sit in his work shop for hours watching him make knives and talk about history. I miss Dave. It is funny, the first knife he made for me was a drop nose blade with a curved handle. We had never met and it fit my hand like he had been making knives for me for years.

The monster is a copy of the Confederate D Guard Bowie knife, or shot sword. I did not want the D Guard... It was a bit big for me to carry around but I did like the look... the checkering is from the original file is was forged from. It is resting on the sheath of a USMC KBar just to give you some scale.

All Dave's knives were wicked sharp and hold an edge. He tried to teach me the trade, but I was to busy being...

My Wife Pat's birthday today... while she and Mom went shopping I hung out in Mom's backyard... Gray Day... couple birds and a couple rats with fluffy tails.

Today was a dreary day and I really wasn't up to getting out. I am a bit wobbly and we had a bit of ice and snow so I stuck to inside stuff. I took picks of my dog Jersey who is a great companion and something that means a lot to me. It is a Soldiers Cross plate. I never was in the military but I was very active in veterans issues. When I could ride I road in a Motorcycle Club that focused on raising awareness. I used to go on the Run to the Wall or "Rolling Thunder". Not so much anymore. I would have taken a photo of Pat, but she would not have been happy.

It was just a sentimental day... You may see a lot of Jersey Girl. I was looking for a dog for a long time after my health issues. I am home alone a lot. I wanted a Coon Hound... but I found I could not handle them. Attended a dinner and sat with a friend from Church that breeds and shows dogs... She gave me Jersey in August. She is a Boarder Terrier. She does not need a lead. She never gets more than 10 Feet from me. If she sees a rabbit, she is off after it, but all I have to do is call her and she breaks off the chase and comes to me. God knew the dog I needed. She is such a blessing.

Four is a good number. My Son has always had a lot of dogs. He has 3 now. Jersey is just cool. Everyone tells me the breed will run and I should keep her on a lead, but she is the exception to the rule. God is good.

To much activity yesterday. Today was a stay at home day, but I still had to get out in the yard with my sunrises, clouds and Jersey Girl... even caught the end of a sunset tonight through some of my rough looking fence row.

Normally, photos like these two would be deemed too busy with all the branches, but I really like them. Specifically the color of the sunlight combined with the branches. Reminds me of seeing that sunset blocked by say... trees, and there is this beautiful color bursting that you're trying to see. I like these two alot just because I do.
