Nikonites First and Last "End of the World" Photo Collage!!

As you all probably know by now, this coming Dec 21st marks the end of the Mayan long count calendar and is believed by some to also mark the end of our world. So in honor of this day we have decided to hold a "End of the World" day photo collage. We here at Nikonites are very fortunate to have members that span our soon-to-be-vanquished world, so it only seems appropriate that we all contribute one last photograph documenting what our world looked like on its very last day of existence.

Take a moment to think of what it is about your corner of the world that you would like us all to see and remember. Then on Dec 21st go out there and capture that final image and post it to this thread. All photographs must be taken on Dec 21st and submitted to Nikonites on or before the world ends. No photographs will be accepted after the end of the world since, well, no one will be here to see them.

Re: Niikonites First and Last "End of the World" Photo Collage!!

Like to participate but wont have access to a computer....Sounds like fun...I'll look in if I get home...

I will take a few shots in the off chance a "BEING" from the future happens upon the D300...

Just think, if we get a lot of photos from all over the world, we can publish the entire lot as a single "End of the World" collection on the Internet! And then everyone can say they're a "published" photographer! :applouse:

Probably, but the official announcement will be on saturday the 22nd. :)

True, and considering the way the politicians thinking here, they will present the end of the world as their big success of eliminating the greek debt after exhaustive negotiations with the IMF...

A River (apparently) Runs Thru It

Alrighty - I'll jump in first. This is a view you may need to get used to, should we not expire in the next 24 hours. It's the view out my "office" window (I work out of my home) and I'm considering a 365 project of photos taken from this window. While it's not yet "the end" the topography has changed a bit since yesterday, what with the river that seems to be forming in the back yard. As I opened the window to shoot this there were ducks flying in from overhead, but they chose the larger puddle in field out back as a landing spot. This is our haven, where we have quite a menagerie that shares the space with us. I believe we're up to close to 80 or 85 species of birds spotted in or flying over this area, and we've had everything from the expected White-tailed Deer, Grey & Red Squirrels, Groundhogs, Voles, Chipmunks and domestic pets wandering through, to Black Bear, Red Fox, Coyote, Weasels and even a stray Fisher Cat two years ago. Who needs to go on safari when you can sit on your deck - or in your office? LOL If we don't make it past today, this is a place I'll sorely miss.

Well, I would like whoever finds what is left of Terra Firma to see some of the everyday beauty that many of us "Earthlings" in Missouri drove by many times, and just did not appreciate what we had. There were many, however, (a peculiar group of Earthlings that called themselves "Nikonites") that really tried to look for the beauty in their surroundings, and captured it with all sorts of contraptions they would hang from their appendages. Curiously, however, none would admit hanging anything around their neck, but I digress.

Here is some regular, everyday beauty from what was called "Missouri". Just try to replicate *this* on planet Uljdudnwmdkchg, or wherever you originate...

I feel very bad for all of you folks that have made it to within site of the finish line on your 365 day project only to have the rug pulled out from under you today and not be able to finish something that has lasted almost an entire year!!! By the way I WILL BE posting some more bird shots tomorrow in grandpaws 365 thread so come and check them out.

This is a vision I wish will still exist in many many years. It's the river that runs one street below mine. I drive by this river every day when I leave home and I just love it.

This is a photomerge of 4 HDR shots. The 4 individual shots were processed in HDR, saved in the same location and then merged with CS6. All shot with the D600 and 16-35 @f8 iso 400.
