High school color run

Wasn't a big turn out, but the participants had fun. Knowing how dangerous this powder can be for cameras/lenses I sprouted eyes in the back of my head and managed to keep upwind from it all. The participants were really good when they approached and I redirected them to keep them away from the camera.

The start.

The festivities didn't quite go as planned. They were supposed to go down into the "bowl" and then do the powder. They didn't make it that long so I ended up capturing smaller little color skirmishes at they happened.

Nice shots but what is a color run?

Probably one of the most dangerous things you can do to/with your camera. The powder is like baby powder and clings to EVERYTHING. The general idea is that there will be a run, in this case a 5k, during and after they burst and throw these powder packets.

Shooting one of these you need to be upwind and shoot with a long lens. Eyes out the back of your head really helps to see that no one inadvertently walks behind you.

Then you have to be patient and quick to read the crowd and try to capture color attacks on each other.

It's fun, but playing with fire.
