Ah, the first day of the new year, and the first day of the 2014 Project 365.

When I came home from running some errands this afternoon, I saw at least 8 chickadees in the forsythia bush next to the house. Most of them were way in the center of the bush, so getting a good photo was rather difficult. They were all rather chirpy and seemed like they were getting ready for the change in weather expected later today. This guy was a little less bashful but would not come out any more than he did.

With all the warnings of horrible snow and all, we have received a whole lot less than expected. This isn't unusual because the Binghamton area is often just on the edge of whatever nasty weather system is passing by. I really feel for the people living north and east of us. They are getting walloped. By 1 PM, about 4" had fallen. Three hours later, another inch was added. I documented it. :)

4" at about 1 PM.

Thanks. We will get the cold, though. The high for tomorrow is supposed to be +4 tomorrow. :( But it will be 35 on Saturday. Woo Hoo! A heat wave. :)

We have 3 inches here right now but are expecting 2-3 more. High tomorrow +10 Sat +25. Maybe I should move further north again.

Once the sun came out this morning, the birds came out of hiding and were back at the bird feeder. The chickadees and titmice were having a field day.

The chickadees were all over the feeder. I didn't realize I had gotten the second chickadee in flight as it left the bird feeder.

This tufted titmouse was not leaving the bird feeder without filling up on sunflower seeds.

It had finally had it's fill...

Our total snowfall was 9", as document below. :)

The temperatures today were a lot more reasonable and bearable than yesterday. WooHoo! It made it into the mid 20s.

I look at Choconut Creek every time I drive over it. Today was no exception. I find that winter around the creek always has interesting texture. Today was no different.

This poor dead plant looked so lost and cold sticking out through the snow.

I didn't realize that, even though the water was turned off in the basement for this spigot, it had a very, very slow drip. I had to play with post processing to get the texture of the actual frozen water to snow.

We also got 9 inches. We're poised for 8-12 more tomorrow. I've been meaning to get some photos of some of the drifts as they're really cool! But I've been plowing the driveway. Today, I plowed the lawn about three feet on both sides of the driveway in prep for tomorrow's weather event. So so so tired!

We're supposed to get rain, then go back to snow the following day. There is so much ice on the river, I wouldn't be surprised if it floods. We don't need any more floods.

We're getting snow here tonight, but OH SO GLAD it's only going to be about an inch. I am NOT a winter fan, and would much rather follow it's progress by way of great shots in threads like this! :)

Thanks. I like winter and snow. I cannot deal with the heat and humidity of summer, let alone all the creepy, crawly bugs. :)

Drab, dreary day. Waiting for freezing rain. :( I took a photo of the picnic table, then played with some of the in-camera settings. I do like the photo sketch tool. I then tweaked it by increasing the contrast during post processing.

No Picnic Today

Below is the photo as it was originally taken. The only post processing on this version is converting from RAW to JPEG.
