Hi all! I'm just a newbie, starting my learning experience using my Nikon D3100, by sharing with you all my photos, as I hopefully learn and improve! My wife likes to collect small statuettes and such. Here is two of my first photos. :)

And here is a small pill box in the shape of a bird. :)

Being such a huge fans of macro photos I just had to try to make some myself. I chose a spider about 1/4 in or slightly smaller as my first attempt. Not the best subject for a newbie, but it was there and I wanted to try anyway! Lol :)

Glad to see you started your own thread. Now try and force yourself to shoot everyday (I remember previously from another thread the pain challenge at times). In time you will love to look back at this thread and see how you have grown and give yourself a chuckle at what you thought was good and where you will one day arrive.

I believe you have the enthusiasm to learn so if I may suggest... study composition and master whatever photo editing software you're using. Below I took your bird photo, cropped it following the "rule of thirds" and adjusted the coloring (guessed at how strong the coloring might be on the actual item). I would have also shot from a lower perspective more on level with the item. Of course getting on the floor may not be an option... so bring it up to your level.

I hope I haven't overstepped my bounds and stepped on your toes. I took the liberty from knowing you on this forum and you seem enthusiastic to improve so I wanted to show how improved your work can look with a few tweaks.

PS. These photos were taken using my 105mm prime lens, using manual settings and focus. When I first got that lens I just fell in love with it, and found myself using it all the time! Lol It's an oldie but a goody for sure! :D

Thank you my friend for the good advice! Several of these photos I didn't crop so as not to crop too much as I have on one of the spider shots not posted here. Lol :) I appreciate your giving me an example to see! As to the color, The color is a closer match to my photo. But I see what you mean! Lol :D

Nice start Bill! The only problem I see is diamonds instead of lenses. Remember to leverage those for future purchase approval!

I bought my wife a new very expensive diamond ring a while back. Anytime I want something NAS related I just compliment her on how nice it looks on her finger and then a little while later I bring up the new purchase. Works every time.

Update after experimenting. I took a few raw shots and found out my xoom won't import them. So I will have to continue taking my photos in JPEG. Oh well it was worth a shot! Lol :)
