Tiny little lens, known in the UK as a 'pancake' lens. Lovely solid all metal construction, yet little over 200 grams. The very short physical length results in a poor 0.6 m closest focus....

      Key Features

      • The first fisheye lens developed exclusively for use with Nikon DX format.
      • Equivalent to 16mm focal length on a 35mm.
      • Close-Range Correction (CRC) provides high performance for sharper images when taking pictures up close.
      • Design enables a combination of wider angle of view with optical characteristics that are optimized for Nikon digital SLR camera sensors.
      • Built-in flower-type lens hood.
      • Ultra-wide picture angle of 180 degrees on DX sensor is achieved by producing a smaller image circle (the size of the image that is projected by the lens onto the sensor) enabling a smaller lens diameter, lighter weight and optimal image quality from center-to-edge-to-corner on the image.
      • Minimum focus distance of 0.14m (5.5 in.) or 0.03m (1.2 in.) from the lens front, makes extreme close-ups possible.
      • Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element minimizes chromatic aberration.
      • Nikon D-type design provides precise distance information for flash and ambient light exposure processes.
      • G-type DX NIKKOR is designed exclusively for use with Nikon digital SLR models.

Review of Product: AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED
    1. Re: AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED

Having owned a couple fisheyes back in my 'film days', I was on the hunt to get a fisheye for shooting digital.

After researching my options, I narrowed it down to the Nikkor 10.5, and several after-market lenses. The after-market lenses were slightly slower (f/3.5 or f/4, compared to f/2.8), larger and heavier. I opted for the Nikkor not only for it's optical performance, but to keep down bulk and weight in the backpack (plus, it AF's with a body focus motor!). Another added bonus... the Nikkor allows rear-lens gel filters. Not a perfect filter solution, but nice to know I can at least get some NDs for it if pressed.

Fisheyes are not for everyone, but everyone should at least spend some time with one. They're fun, and provide a unique perspective. And I have no regrets choosing the Nikkor 10.5.
Don't mind me... I'm out roaming around somewhere between Zone III and VII.

      Go forth and actuate!
