Tiny little lens, known in the UK as a 'pancake' lens. Lovely solid all metal construction, yet little over 200 grams. The very short physical length results in a poor 0.6 m closest focus....

Review of Product: AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6E ED VR
    1. Rating: 5

      Re: AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6E ED VR

This lens is the last item I purchased after having a clear out of things I have not used for a year or more.
It is good and sharp at all focal lengths even wide open.
VR is very good, AF is adequate but not super fast.
Zoom action has a long throw and cant really go from 200-500 in one movement.
Focus ring is broader and grippier than its rivals making it easier to find without taking your eye off the viewfinder.
Build quality is great for its price.
Hood does not snap on in its reverse position as well as in its normal position but I havent lost it yet.
Tripod ring is better than expected, nice and rigid but does lack strap lugs.
Optically I find it works great on my d7100 and produces images on a par with the 300f4af s and tc14eii combo I was using before I purchased the 200-500vr.
At the end of the day it is a great performing, well built piece of kit at a very reasonable price.
