I just wanted to start a thread for this lens which I happen to acquire recently. I don't know why I didn't get it much sooner but I'm glad I did. I'll be adding more images as I use it more often. Not really for macro work but close to it and for flower shots.

Feel free to share your experience and images taken with this lens.

Hummingbird Hawk-moth, it flies like a humming bird but is actually a moth just like any butterfly, it used to be a caterpillar. Its size is less than two inches.

The "new" 105 is about the only Nikkor I have not studied yet. I'm scared of it because it will AF! LOL

Wouldn't it be something if they came out with a fast 105 G???

I am just going to guess that the only way I would ever use such a lens is for a head and shoulders portrait from about 2 or 3 meters away or a close up macro from a distance of a meter or 2...somewhere in there. Nothing else.

FX of course... :)

Nikon has the 105mm f2 DC. Isn't that fast enough? The Nikon 135mm f2 might get released next year.

Like I said I haven't studied the late model 105's. f2 is definitely fast enough for the sensors made now. f2 with a 135 is impressive.

I was just looking at your snaps again...the lens does draw very good just like you would expect a 105 to do. I look forward to seeing more photos you made with this one Glenn hopefully some portrait stuff.

Sorry Jeff, no models to shoot at, just flowers for now.

When I shot with a D7000, my 16-85 was always on camera. Now, I usually keep the 50mm or 24-85 on camera, but the 105mm is my favorite. I enjoy shooting with it, especially macro and portraits. It's just as versatile as any other prime. It can be used for other types of photography. In some cases, you can use it for landscapes, too.

Do not let anyone tell you that you cannot use short teles like 85 and 105 for landscape because they are just absolutely wrong. Sometimes you need to stack stuff in a landscape.

Gee thanks now you guys have got me to considering the 105...lol

Seriously, Jeff, it's one bad lens and built like a tank, too.

I had the opportunity to use the macro lens during a commissioning ceremony today. It worked very well for me since the distance from my subjects allowed the flash to be diffused much better.

This picture reminds me of the movie "Men of Honor" with Robert Deniro and Cuba Gooding Jr.
