    Nikon 300mm f4 AF

Does anyone have the Nikon 300mm f4?

The one I'm referring is (I think) the first 300mm AF Nikon made, late 80s through to 2000, so it doesn't have AF-D or AF-s designation... just plain AF.

All metal, heavy but quite thin to handle when compared to, say, the 80-200mm f2.8.

Got one recently and keen hear of other's experiences.

If it is the first AF 300mm f/4 lens, I tried one. It's extremely sharp but is slower to focus than the two versions that came after it. It isn't compatible with a Nikon TC although it's possible an aftermarket TC might work. I think it has some type of drop-in rear filter.
