A while back, I picked up an inexpensive, slightly-malfunctioning-but-hardly-used D200 as a replacement for my old Lumix pocket camera. I know the D200 is hardly pocketable, but it was dirt cheap so I'm not afraid to take it with me in situations where I might not want to carry my D750. I fixed the slight malfunction (dirty contacts in the sub-command dial), checked the shutter activations (just 4353!) and started looking for a lens.

I did a lot of reading and I settled on the AF-S 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5ED DX. I bought a used one, cheap. I love it! Other than typical nifty-fifty lenses, I can not imagine getting more bang for the buck. This lens is punches way above its weight class and I'd recommend it highly.

In my research for this lens, I also read a ton of great stuff about the AF-S 35mm F/1.8G DX. I would be happy with just the 18-70 but I sure could use a general-purpose focal length lens with some speed, so I ordered an open-box AF-S 35mm f/1.8G DX for a hundred and fifty bucks today.

It is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow afternoon and I hoping to get a chance to give it a good workout over this long weekend!

How about some user opinions of the 35mm f/1.8G? Like it? Over rated? Good as they say?

PS- I also ordered an assortment of color negative film so I can get out the old film bodies this spring!

Sold my 35 a couple weeks after I got it. Good lens, just not a fixed focal length that was appealing to me. I love my 24mm cheapo Sigma Ultra Wide II on FF and DX.

Wish I still had the 18-70 (sold it for cheap to fund my move to FF). Thousands of keeper pictures from it.
