I am interested in the 50mm f1.4 D - thoughts?

I am thinking about getting a 50mm f1.4 AF-D lens to complete the 3 lens "D" standard setup for the DF but need to hear from anyone who has experience with this lens and their views on build / performance and sharpness (wide open would be a desire at times).

I do have the 50mm f1.8G but use it for portraits on the D500 but would love to have a "D" lens trilogy to compliment the DF.

I would be very grateful for any feedback from users of this lens so I can make an informed decision.

Thanks in advance.

I had one in the late '70's and wish I had not traded it off 30 years ago...

The reviews at the time claimed the slower version was sharper but in my personal era of 8x10's max no one could see any sharpness issues.

It just felt 'right' on the F2AS Photomic and it would really light up the viewfinder.

Super Mod
There's one on my local Kijiji (Canadian version of Craig's list) for 220 $ Ca. I'm tempted to just go and get it but I already have the 55 1.2 Ais... The only thing I would gain would be auto-focus, but since I got a split image focusing screen on my Df, I'm OK with manual focus.

I've had mine for about 20 years. Great little lens. I mostly shoot zooms, but when I want to travel super light and know that my feet can do the zooming, I'll pop on the fifty. Build quality is fine - metal vs mostly plastic on G model. Mine is sharp wide open, given limited DOF. Bokeh as good as it can be with 7 straight blades. Here's a sample @ 1.8 from a few years back.
