Hi,
Online the best I can find review wise is amazon. Another site seems too have had a brief review but that was April. I'm wondering what other people may think of this lens ? Obviously most people won't like them because they're very cheap but I'm thinking it could be worth considering if their flashes are anything too go by !

Thanks,

Mark.

Thanks very much. The first link is basically the same scenario I'm in although my child isn't here yet but I still have a lot of money too spend whilst also saving to cover the wife's maternity leave.

If I get this it could leave me the option too get something else in the Boxing Day sales ;) haha

waiting for the 100 f/2 to see if its worthy. at $170 and at levels of the nikon 105 f2.8d micro at 2.8, ill take it. I had my 105VR and sold it. had very little use for it, but here and thee would like something a bit longer. the 50 is great for videogers but not wow for stills.

Here's a funny review from B&H. Michael gave it 5 stars.

Excellentlens for the price

I am extremely happywith the yongnuo lens. Make sure you take the plastic off the inside of thelens, as I was shooting for a week with it on and still impressed with thepicture quality ? I haven't shot with the Nikon make so I can't make a validcomparison. But I am say it's a great addition and a must have.

Back to me: Several of the five reviewers weren't so kind.

Hi guys,
I went ahead with a purchase but the seller was taking the proverbial.

I decided to go for a 2nd hand Nikon 50 1.8 and it hasn't disappointed ! They YY lens landed yesterday even after having been refunded. I now have to send this back to the seller as my wife decided to sign for it despite the fact I told her to refuse it.

I could repay the seller and move the Nikon on as it was nearly double the cost but i now know the Nikon is a great lens and I would be hesitant to swap to the YY based on the reviews.

Thanks everyone for their input.

Mark.

You'd be hard pressed to beat the deal that is the 50mm 1.8G Nikon. Around $200 for Full Frame Nikon glass? If that is too expensive for anyone, you've likely selected the wrong hobby.

Whilst I agree it's not too expensive and it's a great piece of glass. What I will say is.. some people and by some I mean probably a lot of people are using D3000 series on a budget. Even 5000 series. For what ever circumstances so FF doesn't really matter to them. To me it matters nothing. I'll keep this as my next move will be a 7200.
The next point is people's circumstances change someone who can only afford a Yongnuo this year might be looking to go full frame next year, it can only be a matter of a change of job or a promotions difference. With my own scenario I earn a good wage and my wife earns more, she's going on maternity leave soon and that means for the next 9 months we'll be surviving on a hell of a lot less than we're used to. Which is why I asked the question, even though in the end I went for the Nikon.
Therefore I do think your statement is a bit bold, you're not considering the wider picture <- :D

When I think of the Yongnuo 50mm I'm reminded of Sigma and Tamron... Maybe not everyone here is old enough to remember when they were the upstarts; producing "budget" glass no professional would use but that allowed me to get into this hobby when I was still getting an allowance from my parents; and mowing lawns or shoveling snow for some extra scratch.

And look at them now.
