There is not a lot to choose between them i have had both, unless you are changing camera to a 7 series or above i would go for the Sigma, the camera you have has no focus fine tune on it you could do it on the lens using the dock with the sigma 150-600C.

Sigma 150-600mm Sport, without a doubt. But it's heavy, and not all that inexpensive.

I'd heartily recommend reading through the review of the Nikon 200-500mm from Photography Life as it speaks to the Sigma and Tamron. Seems there's some significant variation from lens to lens among the consumer grade stuff, so if you have a chance to hand pick one at a shop you may want to consider it.

I rented the Tamron 150-600 to take to the meet and greet in Florida last month and it was OK but a little disappointing. But with the recent $310 rebate and my wife telling me to buy it I did. It came yesterday and this copy is outstanding. Hand held even at slow speeds it is sharp and I have yet to fine tune it and really not sure I need to. Plan to take it out bird hunting this afternoon so will have a little better idea of what it can do after that.

Not sure if you saw it on the other thread but I just placed my order for the Sigma Sport. $200 off, $300 worth of extras I actually want (filter & USB dock) and 10% B&H Rewards, which is almost like $689 off the $1999 list. That's the way I'm justifying it. LOL

Which one is best ?

It's the old cliche. The one you have in your hands. I can only recommend the 200-500 Nikkor because that's the one I have and every time I shoot with it, it exceeds my my expectations.

All I can say is do lots and lots of research. Read all the reviews that you can, look at others shots (preferably with the camera that you have) on various sites like Flickr.

Do side by side comparisons and such. This way when you do hit that "buy" button , you know that you did everything you could to make an educated decision.

Took me a long time , but I have no regrets.

I like my Nikon 200-500. The rrview in Photography life swayed me quite a bit. But having a local store gave me a chance to try out it and the Tammron addressing the variability concerns. I am happy with my choice.

I have the Sigma 150-600mm Sport and could not be any more satisfied with a different lens than I am with the Sigma. The USB dock is also execellant addition. The Nikon was not even rumored when I purchased the Sigma so I could compare them. I do not doubt that both both the Tamron and the Nikon are also very good choices. I am not a early adopter so I watched the comments about the Sigma and the Tamron for about 1 year before making my decision to purchase the Sigma.

In your sig, it says you shoot with a D5300 - Wouldn't you have auto-focus issues at the long end with the 150-600's? The 200-500 is F5.6 straight through so would avoid this problem.

I'm with Jake (again). I, too, purchased the Sigma 150-600mm Sport lens (the sale price was just too good to pass up) and have been impressed thus far with the results. He calls it heavy. I call it substantial. With a good tripod, it will deliver quality photos ... and yeah, it gets out there.

The question was asked sometime ago - is the O.P. still looking for a long lens?

I had a XXX-600mm (or xxx - 500mm) on my LLL (lens lust list) for a long time before pulling the trigger with this year's income tax refund.

I had the chance to try both the Tammy and Siggy xxx-600mm on my D610 in the store. The clerk asked if I had considered the 200-500 5.6e. I had not. He put it onto my D610 and I tried it. Although it is not as wide (200 vs 150mm) and not as long (500 vs 600mm) I was impressed with that first feel of the lens and the speed of the autofocus of pedestrians across the street through the stores front window. Beat both Tammy and Sigma. If felt better. i also have a D5100 and he said it would focus better on that one too. Although I've not compared them.

I did a little google research and read on-line reviews over lunch while we talked about it. The Nikkor is the most expensive of the three, but when dropping that kind of change, what is another hundred or two (or three)? Siggy plus USB was not that much cheaper. Tammy was the cheapest. As you can see from my signature, I'm a Tammy fan and love their lenses. But this Nikkor is the best of that bunch, IMHO.

I have not regrets and love my 200-500, no regrets whatsoever.
