Nikon 35mm f1.8G "FX" lens

It's interesting to see the "35/1.8" designation again -DX or FX-, one of Nikon's best ever Rangefinder mount lenses. Nikon did a new version of the S-Mount 35/1.8 with the SP-2005. I have one of the original 3.5cm F1.8's. Makes sense to bring it back for F-Mount full-frame to update the 35/2, one of Nikons best F-Mount lenses.

Help me understand what the difference is between the current 35mm 1.8G and the new 35mm 1.8G 'FX'?

Never knew the current 35mm was considered 'DX'.

Thanks.

For the 2014 CES show Nikon will announce a new AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G full frame lens. I do not have an exact date, but CES starts on January 7th and most of the new product announcements are done in the first day. Nikon already has a 35mm f/1.4G FX lens ($1,619) and a 35mm f/1.8G DX lens ($196.95) - the new addition should provide a lightweight and cheaper alternative for full frame shooters.
There will be also another DX lens announcement during the CES show, but I am still trying to get the details - stay tuned.

That's just it^^ It will pretty much only work on DX..We have to see about the new FX..Im pretty sure it will be comparable but will be made for the FX...Will be a nice option for DX owners as well..That way if they convert to FF they will have a lens that works on both..

And it will not work on FX bodies? I've always thought DX lenses can work on FX bodies and vice-versa...

It could work on a FX, but might not cover the whole sensor. It's made to cover a smaller sensor. All DX marked lenses are made for the smaller DX sensor. You can still use them on FX, but the corners won't be sharp or exposed depending on the aperture you'd use.

FX lenses will work on fX and DX.

Here's a pic with the 35 1.8 DX on a D7000

Here's a pic with same lens from same spot on a D700. Do notice the dark corners and the lack of sharpness in the corners

Here's a pic done with ± 35mm FX lens on D700, oh, corners are back...

Since no tripod was used, the angle and view changes a bit, but I hope this gives you the idea. I was actually surprised to see how large the DX lens covered on the FX sensor. I'm sure some lenses don't cover that much.
