Capture NX-D won't convert NEF files to JPEG

Everything was working fine a week or so ago when I worked on holiday photos but now I can't get NX-D to convert NEFs to JPEGs.

I put in the desired settings after hitting the "Convert Files" icon, hit "Start", the little conversion que box pops up for a split second, and the JPEG never show up in the selected destination (or anywhere else).

A quick web earch shows this may have been an issue when Apple went to the Big Sur OS, but Nikon's 1.6.5 version of Capture NX-D fixed the bug. When I pull up the NEF files in Nikon's View NX-i program, I'm able to convert them to JPEGs as usual.

I tried restoring defaults in NX-D preferences and even reinstalled Capture NX-D and that didn't help. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bob

Okay, never mind. There's an issue with older version's graphic cards. Apple pushed out a security update that borked a lot on earlier Mac graphic cards, and a lot of graphic stuff stopped working. That shouldn't be the issue with your Mac though.

@desmobob

I just downloaded and installed Capture NX-D on a 2020 M1 Mac w/ Monterey and it exported (Converted(?) a NEF file to Jpeg flawlessly...

I'd suggest 2 things... if you're still having an issue

1. Start by Uninstalling Nikon's stuff and reinstall it first...with your current OS
2. If the above still presents the same issue...then upgrade your OS to Monterey...
3. If the above option is distasteful to you, then use a different graphics program with your NEF files.

After e-mailing back and forth with Nikon support about the issue, they suggested I try their new "NX Studio." I did, and though I'm still figuring it out, I think I prefer it to Capture NX-D so far.

I may have spoken too soon... although I do like NX Studio, it has started crashing almost every time I use it. :(

As a very late follow-up to this thread, NX Studio is now working wonderfully on my MacBook Pro. I'm sorry I didn't update this earlier.

Having a mini crisis with Capture NX-D – used to convert NEFs like a charm, but now, no luck with JPEGs. Tried the basics – settings, reinstall – nada. Anyone faced this after Big Sur? Also, on a side note, any tips for efficiently to compress JPEG post-conversion?

NX-D has been replaced by NX Studio... Go to Nikon's download page and install NX Studio

You don't "convert" NEF files. You "Export" to a file structure and size that you want using the /file/Export drop down menu at the top left

By adjusting a few parameters on the Export panel, you can export a Jpg as small as 100kb
