I have been trying to play with the free Nikon apps but am having troubles. I can't figure out how to get an image into Capture NX-D. Can someone hold my hand and guide me through this? I am a total newbie at this editing thing so step by step please. Also how do you save what you've done? Thankyou.

Well, then, maybe you could explain the exact problem.

Here's a basic workflow.

1. Take memory card out of camera and plug in to card reader on computer.
2. Transfer images from card to a folder on the computer.
3. Start Capture NX
4. Navigate to left window pane of program and find the folder in step 2 above
5. double click on file you want to edit.

Let us know what part isn't working...

I don't have Capture NX-D, but is it possible to right click on a photo (if using a PC) and select the option to open with Capture NX-D?
Otherwise, if the program is open, is there any option to Import?

Not sure about the right click, open with, I'm on a Mac... There is an "Import with Transfer" option but he'll need to load the Nikon Transfer program...

I'm just trying to see which process he's currently using and where he's getting stuck...

on a MACbook its not so much right click as a 2 finger press on track pad and you get the options to open with along with a list as long as your arm to do other stuff lol

Well I've figured out how to import but got no idea where they go when I export. Using a PC. One of the images I exported went in the file beside the original but 3 others are unknown.

First off, let me preface this by saying, Nikon's software is a bit industry non-standard... Nikon's developers live in their own world and never look outside. That's most evident when looking at how their software operates and the rest of the software world operates.

Here's where Nikon goes against the rest of the world... Everybody in the world either calls it "Save as.." or "Export..." with some form of dialogue box for the settings.

Nikon calls it "Convert files..."

If you use the drop down Menu at the top... chose the File Menu option
scroll down and select "Convert files"

You'll get a dialogue box for all your settings...
At the bottom of that box are settings for the File's destination...
