Lightroom 4 Disabled

I have a copy of Lightroom 4 that I purchased years ago shortly after it was released. It seems that somehow Adobe trespassed on my computer and disabled it so that it will not boot up and I cannot use it to access the photos I had stored there. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I personally have moved on to ON1 but still.........:(

We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

Sorry about your issue. Hopefully you still have the original software. If so, you might try re-installing it to retrieve your photos.

Welcome to the forum. I have never used Lightroom, so I can't help you on that, but I do use ON1 and really like it. There are some on here that will probably come along and give you some assistance. I would think that you could still access and see the image files. Are you using a Windows machine or a Mac?

You should be able to access the images without the software, you just can't get to the catalog. If you have sidecar (xmp) files then you don't even need the catalog because all the develop module information in there. You'd just need to figure out how to get them into ON1.

That said, the story goes that if you buy the Creative Cloud Photographer package and then cancel you are supposed to be able to retain a functioning version of Lightroom at least from a catalog perspective. Worst case you invest in one month of CC, pull in the old catalog to LR Classic (the version that's similar), and then cancel.

I tried that but it won't load. I entered the serial number that came with the software and tried to install it but it insists that I need to purchase a subscription. I read the info that you have to agree to and it says that Lightroom may occasionally access the Adobe website so I guess they have done something to disable the serial number to keep my computer from reloading it? At this point I really don't care as I have backups of the images.

The last update for Lightroom 4 was Lightroom 4.4. 1, and that was several years ago. Lightroom 4 is no longer being supported or updated by Adobe.

Lightroom 4 was released in 2012. In the scope of software age, that's equivalent to the ice age.
Your images were never stored on Adobe's web site. They are all on your computer. Lightroom on links to the images on YOUR computer.

Adobe moved to a subscription based model years ago. When you subscribe to Lightroom (or any of Adobe's other products) those products access Adobe's site to see that your program is up to date... It subsequently updates the program if it needs to.

Without asking you 20 questions about your computer, I'm surprised that your Operating system would even load/run LR 4.

All your original images are on your hard disk... Adobe has done nothing to block or alter them.
