    Lr/Ps issue

Hi Membs, I installed Lr on pc and it came with Ps also... When I insert SD card (RAW) another Adobe prog, (Bridge) starts to import them, and dialogue box open for my permission... As I don't usually want to import all pics from SD, which is the best way to browse through and selecting best for editing? The thumb nails don't show image just "NEF file", and double clicking these starts Ps for viewing... Very slow.... I only want them to open in Lightroom. Tried looking at "select which app opens this type of file" and Lr isn't in the list.... Neither is Ps come to that.???

You might want to open LR before inserting your SD card and then use LR's import menu. You can then see all the files and "check-un-check" the ones you want-don't want to import. You also will have to specify where you want the files to be copied to.
My method of import consist of copying all the files to a specific folder on my hard disk and I import from there. This way I don't have to go through the copying process or forget where I had the files copied after the fact. Within the import screen, you can double click on your image to see them in full screen and then use keyboard arrow (left-right) to move between images to make your final selections.

    Hope this helps.

If you're on Windows 10 click on the Windows icon (bottom left of your toolbar) and type in "AutoPlay Settings". Click on the menu item "AutoPlay Settings" and under the drop-down menu for "Memory Card" you'll probably see, "Import photos and video". Change that to, "Take no action", or "Ask me every time". Personally, I use Bridge to peruse photos on my memory cards, but I don't want Bridge importing them automatically, so I use the "Take no action" option. I open Bridge manually and select/purge photos right from the card. Bridge is a surprisingly power asset manager but you have to learn how to use it. There are all sorts of options for ranking, organizing, changing metadata and so forth. Happy to help with that if you're interested.

I also associate .NEF file extension with Photoshop since that's what I use to process. You could do the same with Lightroom even if it's not showing in the list of available applications. You do that by right-clicking on a .NEF file, choosing Properties and clicking on the "Opens with" button. You'll probably have to navigate then to the Lightroom .exe file to complete the association. Once you do, .NEF files will open in Lightroom by default.

EDIT: And if your .NEF files are not showing as image-type thumbnails it's because you don't have the .NEF codec installed on your computer. You can either install some Nikon software, like ViewNX or NX-D (even if you don't intend to use the software itself), which will install the codec, or you can download the codec directly from Nikon: .NEF Codec download.

    Re: Lr/Ps issue

I import directly to LR. There is a checkbox in LR preferences. Checking that might get you to a place where LR will launch when you insert a card, otherwise what Fish says will work and give you more choices. Many times when windows 10 or Adobe updates, I have to mess with things to get the LR auto launch working again.
I like LR import and LR is my main program to work in. It shows thumbnails. Optionally, it will avoid suspected duplicates. You can check or uncheck the images marked for import. My LR import is set up to copy the card to a new dated folder under my pictures. One new folder per day.
I dont open a single nef file too often, but I associate them with PS. The reason being if its a stray NEF, I probably downloaded it to play along with some sort or tutorial. So clicking it opens PS. For LR, I set up an auto import folder on the desktop. I move a file there and when LR is launched, it will automatically be imported into LR. Again I do this for a file I might download for practice.
I must have a really good camera.
