Two versions of CC on the same computer, can I do it?

I have been not upgraded my CC from 2015 because it all works. My plug-ins, actions, and whatever else I have added on. I would like to bring down the latest version, but at all costs do not want to have it replace or screw up what I have working beautifully.

The question, can I bring down the latest as its own download and not as an upgrading of my 2015 version?

Please, no speculation.

Found the answer. On the update window there is an advance option where you can tell it to leave the old version. Tomorrow I will have to sit down and play with it.

I have both the 2015 and 2017 versions on this laptop. During the process, there is a box that you need to either mark or unmark to keep the previous version intact. Be sure to read everything before the installation. Since I don't have the latest version, I don't know if it is still an option though.

I've got 3 versions of CC (2014, 2015.5, current) plus CS6 installed and can go back to any of them if need be. Biggest bitch for me with newer releases is the lack of refine edge tool. They screwed the pooch when they got rid of that and replaced it with crap. NiK was another reason though now with DxO it's not as much of a concern.

You can actually go back and install older versions, but the key is to make sure that when you upgrade that you don't remove the old one.

What do you mean? I finally sorted and got Nik working thanks to someone on the forum here that pointed out a few adjustments with permissions that were stopping it working. I am So So So happy to have it back again. I love that package :D

When Google bought the company that made Nik Tools they had no interest in Nik Tools. They then made it free because they didn't care. Google then announced they were not going to support or develop it so when it became it obsolete it would just be gone. DXO, thankfully, bought it. No doubt in the future they will develop it and it will cost again, but thankfully Nik Tools is no longer going away.

With Google announcing they were no longer maintaining Nik it was inevitable that at some point it would stop working with the next release of Photoshop. Now that DxO has taken over the collection it's hopeful that they will work to keep the original up and running on new releases at least in the short term, though it may require ponying up for their updates which I will not since I paid for the original before it was free. For that reason I will keep a version of Ps around that works with it as-is once it permanently stops working with new releases.

That's a good idea. When I bought it, it was around one month before they let it become free. Fortunately they refunded me the entire purchase price.

Truth be told I also keep it around for ON1 and a couple other things that I have no intention of upgrading but still use from time to time.

I finally installed Photoshop 2018 but wasn't able to add the Nik Collection in the usual way. I wound up copying the plug in folder from my Program Files and pasting it into the new program folder. In case anyone runs into problems installing the Nik Collection, below is what I did....

Went to Computer--Program Files--Adobe--Adobe Photoshop CC 2017--Plugs Ins and copied the Google folder. Then I went back to Computer--Program Files--Adobe--Adobe Photoshop CC 2018--Plugs Ins and pasted the Google folder. I tried most of the plugs ins in Photoshop CC 2018 and was able to use all that I tried without any problems.

So you're saying that downloading it fresh from the DxO site and installing fresh didn't work?

Uhhh....

I thought I read where it wasn't free--but I never looked up the info. Oops! I tried to install the plug in from my existing software. :shame: That will teach me! Thanks for letting me know, Jake. Lol.

I know this is several years too late, but just today I came across this info and remembered you mentioning this years ago. Right now I'm watching a class by Jesus Ramirez on Creative Live who says Adobe rarely ever completely removes something from Photoshop. Instead, they tend to hide things. This link contains the same info Jesus gives in the class I'm watching.

Although I am not using a current version of Photoshop, I'd be interested in hearing if this still works.
