Afinity Photo Two Thumbs Up!

I own Lightroom6 outright on CD, and love it . I have been a PhotoShop user since PS3, and am currently using PS7. I was considering upgrading to PScc. Although, I have 2 friends using Afinity Photo. I was so impressed with the software I purchased it, $50 with life time updates. Also, I'm amazed with the likeness to PhotoShop and the abundant Afinity Tutorials on YouTube. I would not make the claim it's better than PS, but in my opinion it surly is not worse or lacking while using it to manipulate images. I find it to be a great alturnitive to PS. These programs are so expansive we are only using the tip of the iceberg. Afinity can be loaded on Mac or Windows. Check Afinity Photo out on YouTube, I love the inpaint tool! If you are an Afinity Photo user let us know what you think.

It does look worth looking at, but one key question. Does Affinity play well with NIK software? If not, it might be a deal beaker for me and I would rather not waste my time testing it if it will not meet my requirements.

I have had Affinity for about 12 months now, I only use about 2% of what can do, but I like having it there for when I need it. I do all my basic editing in Apple Aperture, and only go over to Affinity when I need to.

It is good to hear there are other options. LR and PSCC don't play nice with my computer. I was given this computer, and it just can't handle the software, but the computer itself is wonky anyway. Slow out of the box with nothing on it, and since it is a Mac, there is nothing I can do about it. Can't be upgraded.

Anyway, I am looking for something else to work with. I will take a look at this one. Thanks.

I tried E.I.,Mozilla,Chrome, even clicking on the link you put up it was showing the Canada price I had to go to the purchase page and put in United States to see the correct price. Maybe my internet provided decided I was in Canada. I'm taking my camera out to the back yard and see if I can get a picture of a moose.

I downloaded the Affinity Free Trial.
At least I was able to edit an image without too much trouble. I know it isn't much of an endorsement, but for me, being able to figure out how to get the image edited, resized and changed to jpg without watching numerous tutorials means it pretty easy to use. Will go watch tutorials now to see if I want to keep it.

I just got home from being out of town. I'm glad to see some interest in Afinity. As I say, I use Lightroom6 for Post Processing, Develop. Although Afinity also has a develop mode. If I need to manipulate an image then I moved into PS7, but now Afinity. So far, I find Afinity to more than meet my needs. Just thought I'd mention an affordable alternative to PS. Thanks for the comments. Everyone have a great day.

Yes it does for Dfine. I have not tried all of NIK, Topaz works but none of the Macphun or ON1. The Actions cannot be transferred but have to be recreated in their version of Macro's. I had to view their tutorial on masks just a little different but it works when you understand it the same with clipping masks. If you look at some of the images I did not all but did use Affinity. I have been jumping back and fort with their RAW and Iridient RAW. I have Iridient to finish in Affinity and Adobe Bridge to open in Affinity.

I've been using the Mac version for quite some time now and find it particularly strong at layers. I don't know of the current version but in past ,PS could get very complicated to do certain layer manipulations (smart objects and such). In Affinity I can do whatever I like with its layers, direct and intuitively.

I still use RawTherapee to do the initial processing but everything special is done in Affinity.

Since we are talking alternatives, what out there will catalog and help trash unwanted images? I never really used LR for this purpose, but I really need to organize and tag images before it turns into a Digital Mt. Everest. It is already close to that now.
Rating the images and then performing a mass delete would be less time consuming than picking each or creating a delete folder.

Are you using LR as part of Adobe CC? If so you should be able to download/install Adobe Bridge. Bridge could turn your Everest into a mole-hill in short order. You could always do a thirty-day free trial as well. Then you'd have a month to get things neat/tidy and come up with a long-term organizational strategy, all without having to pay anything.

I actually have both now, but probably about to let my subscription lapse. I think I have until the end of this month. I was just thinking I need to use them to organize while I still can, but was looking for an alternative.
If Bridge will do what I need then I am in good shape. LR does not act right on my computer. I can"t rely on it.

Thanks, I didn't think about using Adobe Bridge.

Here is a screen shot of Affinity; instead of unsharp filter I used clarity at 3px. The final image of the mallard.

I am pleased with their product. For those that may be hesitant juts try the trial. The RAW develop module may be a little different from Adobe Camera RAW but you can get used to it. I use Adobe Bridge (its free even the CC version). I have used Adobe Bridge PSE 4 and full version PhotoSHop and always like the way it worked especially navigation, collections and even which focal length I was using.
