How To Remove High ISO Noise Reduction From NEF File

I have a D600 and shoot RAW. I have a pile of high ISO (4000-6400) images that I shot with the High ISO NR set in-camera to normal. I process in View NX2 which appears to apply the High ISO NR to the file automatically. I really don't like the effect this has on the image. But I can't find a way to turn off the High ISO NR in ViewNX2.

So I was thinking is there a way to strip the high ISO NR setting out of the RAW file? I tried making a jpeg copy of the file with Windows Photo Gallery and that does the trick. But I want the RAW file to work with, naturally.

Any ideas to try? I know I can use other software programs, even Nikon programs, but I don't have any of those and don't need anything more than ViewNX2--unless it's free of course.

Thanks for your help

Turning off the NR in View NX2 is not an option.

You can turn off the Noise Reduction using Capture NX2, however, and I believe it's still free to download.

Thanks for the tips. I went the Capture NX2 route. Downloaded the trial version. I've been fooling around with it. There's one major catch with this. Once you save a NEF file in NX2, you can no longer do anything with it in View NX 2. This is sort of a problem, because I probably won't be buying Capture, and now I can't use the one file I saved in there in View NX. Luckily, I came across this problem before I got any further in editing other images.

But that's sort of a major caveat!

There doesn't appear to be any fix to this.

Kind of comical.

Will NX2 handle DNG files,if so would using the free Aobe DNG converter lose the high iso reduction so you were back to working with a basic raw file. ?

Have you tried the Capture NX-D that Nikon intended as the replacement to the Capture NX2? The NX-D is free.

Nikon | Download center | Capture NX-D

While it's true the NX2 is not quite dead yet, it has been in a coma since 2009. I have no personal opinion about NX-D since i am a jpeg-only shooter, but as far as I know it is a full fledged raw developer that has access to Nikon camera settings.
