Capture One vs Lightroom?

Hi, you guys probably discussed it before, I just couldn't find it. I am just setting up for post-editing, and not sure what to buy. Google says Capture one is the best. I bought the book and it's a bit confusing; in the meantime I found tons of resources to learn Lightroom fast. What should I do, what should I do? It is tempting to just set up LR because I feels I will learn it faster and start editing; in the meantime I understand that when I decide on one program I won't be switching. If you think of all the advantages of Capture one, do they worth double price and questionable learning resources? Or am I wrong and I can learn is as fast as LR? Thank you for any suggestions!!

There is no "best" one out there, just what is "best for your needs." The simple answer. If you don't mind subscriptions the Adobe CC program really can't be beat. Lightroom and Photoshop. Plus download NIK Tools for free? (Lightroom plug in) and you have some serious organizing and editing tools!!!

Also....YouTube is your friend. Seriously. Books are nice...but people have some really good tutorials out there.

I need to be clear that I have NOT used Capture One but.....

I am a BIG fan of Lightroom and also endorse the Creative Cloud....... (I use Lightroom everyday..)

Hi thank you for your answer! I wonder what Photoshop program does Capture One use?
Photoshop and Capture one are two separate programs.
I would use Lightroom as it is much easier to use and much harder to ruins images completely as it is non destructive editing.

Yulia, I think a Scott Kelby did a comparison of Capture One against Adobe recently. I'll see if I can find the link and share it here (not sure if it's restricted to KelbyOne subscribers or public).

That said, I find Lightroom works best for me from a workflow perspective, with the minor edits that I'm likely to do. I have a few consistent edits that I tend to do across all my images; white balance correction, contrast/clarity, lens corrections, etc, so using a tool like Lightroom allows me to do those changes in bulk and then quickly tweak those changes as needed. I've used Photoshop for bulk changes in the past too (namely image resizing), but find I like Lightroom's flow better.

When I got my OLY, I couldn't use LR so I went for capture One. I couldn't get warm. At that time ACR was updated so I was able open my 0rf files. I loved it. But I loved the workflow of LR,. Now I am using LR 6.51 and I love pp again.

So, If I have to choose again for my needs , my list would be

#1 LR
#2. ACR
#3 DOX Optics Pro10 (which I have too)
#4 Capture 0ne

Crap. So after playing on the trial for a few days. C1 has been amazing. Like truly eye opening. I thought Lightroom had a fluid workflow. But the sheer ability to not only increase workflow but to completely tailor the workflow to meet your individual needs is just mind boggling. Even the catalog experience seems to be on a whole new level.

While Lightroom is pretty easy to learn i have had my hiccups with mastering parts of it. And while I am really new to C1....it just has seemed a lot more effortless to dive right in. I have just been having a lot more FUN with C1.

Yeah, I'm liking C1 a whole lot; and the more I use it, the more I like it.

Having Sessions vs Catalog is great, and innovations like the Focus Mask (with just a click!) are awesome.

I will say this though. The different tabs and things have been well thought out and executed. Plus. You can customize just about everything to your liking.

Anyone else notice that Capture One tends to bring out more detail in their photos?

I have noticed a big difference in initial detail and contrast. I got boost both in Lightroom to equal the Capture One, but if using the global sliders it starts to tweak sections of the photo I don't want messed with.
