PhotoShop Elements 11 question

Good morning.

I've been using this software for some time now, and it works well enough. One thing drive me crazy, and I'm wondering if there's an easy fix. When I line up a folder to edit and finish with the picture, I seem to have to go back to that folder and select the next photo in line for editing, without having the opportunity to simply hit what should, for want of a better name, be called a Next button, which would automatically extract the (you got it) next picture in line and bring it up on the screen for editing. Failing this, or at least my ability to locate said button, I am forced to tediously go back into the folder and scroll down to the appropriate picture, then pull it up, edit, and return to the folder again ... and again and again.

Is there a Next button somewhere in this software that I'm not finding?

Many thanks,

First I will admit I don't actually know the answer to this question, but I have a feeling the functionality you want does not exist.

Barring that, can you instead open, say for instance, three files at once? Then you could edit File X, close it, and have Files Y & Z still open and ready for editing. Or you could put the folder, or a shortcut for the folder, containing your target files on your desktop (or some other easily accessed location for your file browser) to speed up the process of getting back to your target folder/files.

Open Elements
at the bottom, click on "Photo Bin"
When you "Open" an image, select all/a bunch of the photos in the folder, and then hit "Open"...

This should "Open" multiple images in the bottom panel "photo Bin"...
Edit an image, and double-click the next image in the "Photo Bin"

PS... This is Elements 12....

AND....... if you were using some good FREE software like Nikon Capture NX-D you open a folder and see a thumbnail view of each photo in that folder in filmstrip fashion at the bottom of the screen. You can then edit all at once, one at a time or jump to anyone one of more to edit in any order.

Just sayin' Ha!

That's also a good suggestion, grizz; thanks for passing it along. It's taken me a long time to get a feel for the current software, but I'm not so invested in it that I would ignore a reasonable alternative ... especially one that makes it easy to access the photos, one at a time. I swear that it takes me as long to get to the next file as it does to actually operate on the photo once it's up.

Sigh

It's a FREE download from Nikon. I'm not sure what you are doing now with Elements as far as editing goes, but NX-d has come quite a ways along in the general basic editing tasks and it is pretty easy. Exposure can be adjusted, White Balance, Picture Control settings can be changed like Portrait, Landscape, Vivid.... Saturation, Contrast, Brightness, Hue, etc can be adjusted. Shadows and Highlights can be adjusted. Sharpening, Unsharp Mask, Lens correction and color curves... As you can see it is pretty good for general adjustments. Things that are missing that I think Elements has is the ability to select/isolate specific areas in a photo for adjusting and some of the other more detailed type of adjustments.

My workflow is based on FREE software. Ha! View NX-i from Nikon for transferring RAW files from the camera to the computer. Then Capture NX-D (which can be accessed from NX-i) for doing my color, exposure, contrast, etc adjustments. Then I use GIMP to fine tune things like removing something or healing a spot, etc. This is where specific areas of the photo are adjusted as needed, layer masks are used, etc. Also the Copyright is added and it is resized for the internet in GIMP. Other "enhancements" ie picture frame or adding vignette, motion blur are done in GIMP. NIK tools and On One?? photo are used for some effect in rare instances.

Interesting stuff, Walt. Thanks for taking the time to expand your thoughts on the software. I'll download the Nikon version and take a look.
