Nik Tools - Control Points

Here is an excellent video on using control points. I remember seeeing this before and just figured it costs too much. At least Google brought down the price from $500 or so to $150. If they would drop it some more, I would probably get it. It is a cool feature, and I'm in the process of watching more Nik Tools videos. So far, I'd have to say it's a great feature, but a hefty price tag unless I can find more cool features. I figured I would change the thread from OnOne software to post processing where it belongs. I will add more to this post or in following posts to let you know what I think of the overall package. I never said it sucked, just expensive.

It is money well spent even at $150. I'll have to watch the video and see if there is something I can pick up from it... thanks for sharing.

Oh dear things are looking inevitable again.
Great video - thanks

We have a member that is not active right now that showed me this software and once I looked at it I bought it that night. Really speeds up post processing and gives your photos a more polished look. There used to be a trial so you could try before you buy.

Oh goodie .... thanks for the video. I'll watch this later today because I really need to learn how to use those control points properly.

Did I tell you I love my Nik Software? I do you know :D

Amazing. People will spend hundreds if not thousands over one lens or camera over another, to squeeze out a bit of extra sharpness, but will get cold sweats over a 150 dollar piece of software that will transform their images for the better .

I do almost all of my editing in Nik plugins. When I discovered their control points, I almost gave up on Photoshop's masks and layers. Control points are so much easier and quicker to use! I really couldn't live without the Niks. They are worth every penny.

I used to do lots of corrections in Viveza, but with time I gradually migrated to Color Efex Pro, where I can do similar control point stuff and much more. There are dozens of filters in Color Efex Pro and it takes some time to learn them, but once you've understood what they do, image editing becomes a doddle.

I had the cold sweats over the $150 price for about 12 minutes while I played with the trial. It did take me a few minutes to go to the other side of the house to get my credit card.

Best photographic money I have spent so far.

I don't think it's quite like that, but rather more of a "Why should I spend $150.00 more on software other than what I already use?" type of discussion. I'm quite pleased with the edits I get currently, so for me, it's about what makes it so much better? My $150.00 is gonna get spent either way. Some of us just have to weigh out what we're going to spend it on to have the most dramatic impact.

It's not always about the extremes, eh? I, for one, am going to follow this thread and look at the control point tutorials to weigh out if it's worth $150.00 taken away from my "next lens" fund. :)

Yea, but with NIK you don't need any lenses. It attaches straight on to the Primal Beast's sensor.:excitement:

I love my NIK Software Tools. As I said in an other thread that since I got LR5 I didn't use it. But know I am going to use it as more.

Well....after spending most of the day reading these posts and watching Nik Tools videos, along with a few chores....I will say I almost made a collasal mistake. I underestimated the power and ease of Nik Tools. Yup, you heard it from the horses mouth (or ass). I made a mistake. Nik Tools is well worth the money, but if you don't have it, don't expect any discounts at the moment. I checked with their rep., and there aren't any. It IS definitely money well spent though and I will be re-purchasing it. Just watching it, and writing to a friend who is my trusted advisor....and most of yours too....the verdict hit me in the face. I was wrong, but I learned a lot in the process. I encourage Pretzel to do as Blacktop suggested and buy it. I know he will soon enough, but just saying. It's better than most lenses you'd be saving for. I have a lens that's coming out in March, but it'll have to wait. I will buy Nik Tools first. Nik Tools gets a 5 star out of 5 star rating. So much so, that I'm thinking of stopping my CC and just using LR stand a lone which I already have, and use Nik Tools. I'm thinking the hell with PS. Too much mumbo jumbo, and bulky, and difficult to use. I guess I better be careful with what I say about it, but I really think Nik Tools has a big advantage over PS right now. It's cheaper in the long run.

Good laugh for the day!

Don't know any other comedy show which costs as little as $150.00 :)

US $150.00 = NZ $203.31 :(

Sooooo....., we in the US $ land get a $53.31 discount? ;)

I've thought about this tool, and will look at the video to learn more about it. Thank you for sharing.

Don't worry Pretzel....I'll be feeding you all the images you want for re-touching BEFORE I bought Nik-Tools. That way, you won't need a lens, at least for a while.

You know, this gives me an idea. You feed me your RAW files, and I'll PP them for 5 bucks a piece. Oz
