Presenting Oksana :: Portraits of a Dancer ::

I had the pleasure of working with this beautiful young dancer, Oksana, last week. Oksana was born, raised and classically trained as a dancer in Ukraine before emigrating to the Unite States. After watching her on the floor for some time I knew I wanted to photograph her. In speaking with her about a possible photo-shoot I was struck by her soft voice and timid demeanor since it was in such striking contrast to her powerful athleticism. These shots are some of my personal favorites from the shoot.

In speaking with her about a shoot I was struck by how soft voice and timid demeanor was in such striking contrast to her powerful athleticism, which is what I really hoped to showcase in this particular shoot. But, as is so often the case for me, the shoot went semi-sideways at some point and things got silly. We were having a lot of fun, so I decided to just roll with it. Below are some of my personal favorites.

Very nice series. On the second shot it looks like your focus was not on the eyes, although I can perfectly understand why.:encouragement:

She is a beautiful girl and yeah, I was shooting wider than I probably should have... I don't normally shoot dancers at f/2.8 like I did here.
