A few shots from an impromptu little shoot today at the park. Used natural light and a single Meinke 910 OCF
at either 1/8 or 1/16. What ya think? CC is more than welcomed!!

Great use of the flash David. Nice that you did use it just to fill in with just the right amount.

My knowledge of these type of images is limited to like or not like :D these are a like especially the middle four.

Thanks, Mike!

I think every single photo is great. All together as a series are awesome

Thank you, Michael!

Really nice photos. You can never have enough of the family.

Thank you! And this one is MORE than willing to get her picture taken. LoL.

Thank you, Marcel! Learning to use fill is definitely trial and error. Some were just WAY too much at first. Post can help save some, but I'd rather learn to get it right in camera.

Excellent series... it came out very nice! Pat in GA

Thank you, Pat!

All are very nice but I have to say that the second one is my favorite!!! You knocked this one out of the park. Pun intended....

Thank you! Funny that I thought that one had too much flash at first. LoL.

Here are a couple more. Throw out any technical advise you guys can! I'm determined to learn this side of photography. I've been hounded by several people here locally to do family and senior pics, but I'm not going there until I think I'm getting it down. Believe it or a not, a couple people were offended that I wouldn't jump right into it for their kids.

Being primarily a portrait and landscape photographer, I'd say you nailed all these shots! Nothing to be ashamed of here, bud! If these were for a client, they'd be very happy indeed! :) Nice work.

Wow. Thank you, Jack! I appreciate that very much.

One men question for you ... I'm having a hard time reducing the harsher shadows right under the brim of the hat. I've used the LR shadows slider, but need more. Could I use a different brush maybe? Even with fill, the sun was too high to be wearing the hat, imho.

Nice set of shots. Nothing in the way of technique, but your subject seems to be at ease with the spot light. Could be a future in modeling?

Thanks! Kate has been and likely will always be our family Diva! She loves the attention and has always had an affinity for posing it up. That's only gotten stronger since starting dance classes and now doing theatre. She's much more relaxed around dad, but she's loosening up with others and for being nine, has impressed me with her improvement the last year. Fingers crossed for her!!

I went back a gave a critical eye to the shadow caused by the hat. First off there are no harsh shadows. What shadows that are there are very soft and cause no loss of detail. In fact a couple of them you may have lightened just a tap to much. Only noticed that because you asked. It is minor and not really a problem. Shadows are expected in a situation like this and need to be there. Using the flash lightened and softened just enough to make it look good.
