I shot this image of Caitlin with the F4E and 85mm f1.4 AIS and Tri-X rated at ASA 200. The subtle grain in the out of focus areas adds so much to this image and the tonality is terrific. This image will look fantastic printed on Oriental Seagull grade 2!

Beautiful subject and pose. Looks pretty grainy to me, but to each his own. Maybe it's just a lo-res upload. And, not to be too critical, but you cut off her knee. Maybe you wanted it this way, but this is why I like digital..I can see right away (or in a few hours) what I've shot and make any adjustments I might need. Plus, I tend to shoot a bit wide and crop in post. Quite a change from my days with an FM and the darkroom....

I guess it's a matter of taste, but he indicated that he liked the grainy appearance. In fact, if he was shooting Tri-X, he probably did so with the specific intent of adding some grain.

I do agree with your criticism of the knee being cut off. That bugs me, too. You do have a good point about shooting wide and cropping in. The cut-off knee is a perfect example of why this is a good idea.

I guess film is like one of those "if i have to explain it, you wouldn't understand" things.
I'm sure it's a great shot but I just don't get it..No matter!! I like my friend @STM and I hope he doesn't take it the wrong way.

I love old style black and white film with some grain. I did a self portrait for a photo challenge that was grainy with a little sepia for character. I got more compliments on that pic than any I have done.
