A good friend of mine has just purchased his 36th lens  and to make matter worse no Nikon, they are all Pentax :hurt:.

I'm sure I read many years ago that the average hobbiest photographer owns about 3 lenses.
I could understand a pro having many more, but 36! So many must be dust collectors.

So how many do you all own?
(I will make an effort at attaching my first poll to the thread but it may not work )

9 that I use regularly/irregularly (on 3 bodies), another 3 for a Fuji, about a dozen more I can't be bothered to part with.

Lessee.

Modern electronic interchangeable lenses. Non-interchangeable lenses. Analog 35mm lenses. Analog medium format lenses. Analog large format lenses. Analog enlarger lenses. A lens in my enlarger focuser.

Lenses on my cell phone. Lenses on my tablets. Lenses on my laptops. Lenses in front of my eyeballs. Lenses IN my eyeballs.

Lenses in my binoculars. Lenses in my monoculars. Lenses in my telescopes. Lenses in my spotting scopes.

Lenses on my dashcams. Lenses on my back-up cameras. Technically, there are lenses all around my vehicles...fresnel lenses to be specific... as part of the tail, turn and headlamp assemblies, but lenses nonetheless.

Lenses in the magnifying glasses laying around the house. A lens in the loupe I use when metal detecting. Lenses in compass bases. Heck, I even have flashlights with lenses.

More than 20 counting Nikon cameras, old cameras, cell phone, reading glasses, sun glasses, and telescope lenses. If I only count Nikon Camera lens 7

This is an interesting subject. I think I have about 7 lenses for the Nikon cameras. I do find that I can get lazy and "make do" with what is already mounted to the camera, when a different lens would probably do a better job.

Nikon F-mount is currently 10 lenses, but I really would give away my 18-55mm DX zoom to anybody who wants it. It has no purpose anymore. I am actually looking to pick-up another zoom lens (28-80mm kit lens even considered) to use for my D600 infrared conversion. I'm just using a 50mm f/1.8G for it now.

I have a MD-mount zoom and a 45mm prime for my Minolta XD-11 film SLR.

Edit: Make that 11 lenses now. I bought a used Nikkor 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5D mostly to keep on the D600 infrared conversion.

3 - those in my sig although I'm waiting on an order for the z MC105mm --- anytime now would be good!

I had 6 F lenses with a DSLR; all of which I sold to buy the Z6 etc

With this Poll now closed, I have learned that several members suffer from GAS and have poor eyesight ;)

GAS = gear acquisition syndrome
POOR EYESIGHT - this based on the number of references to people having cataract operations

Seriously, I suppose the Poll results are too small to read too much into it, but the majority here is between 7 and 10 lenses.
Maybe a better question might have been, how many do you use on a regular basis.

For the record, I have owned many lenses over the decades, but I often like to buy and sell, trying out different ones. Of course there has been a few exceptions where I have held onto the same lens for many years.
The most have ever owned in any one period has been 6 and I currently own 4.

As far as the most used goes, my 200-500mm gets 90% of the use. Meanwhile the 50mm f/1.8 gets about .001% of the use. :) (17-50mm is just as sharp and more versatile. )

I don't think you are alone there, as so many people seem to purchase a 50mm then don't use it very often.
I once read that the 50mm is the most resold lens. Certainly if you look for secondhand ones there is always plenty for sale everywhere.

I recently added the z 24-200
I went on a cruise around the Greek Islands and couldn’t make my mind up as to which to take. Having read really good reviews, I went ahead and got this…and it was the only lens used. It worked well..

We look forward to seeing some of your images taken with your Z6 and new z 24-200 lens.

Gee! Will I get credit for this posting. Or will the credits be missed like the ones yesterday or next most recently missed!
