Re: Tip - Attached lens won't autofocus

Not sure if this is relevant to this make/model, but on Canon body, I was able to reset things by doing the following:

1. Switch off
2. remove battery and card
3. switch on
4. Hold down the shutter for at least 15 seconds
5. switch off
6. re-install battery and card
7. switch on and keep your fingers crossed.

It worked for me and cleared unusual issues I was having with it.
This was apparently a suggestion from a technician in one of their factories and was not widely known in the public domain. It makes you wonder if this is what they do when people send their cameras in for a repair costing a fortune:confused:

Try at your own risk!!

Re: Tip - Attached lens won't autofocus

Worked like a charm with my D7200. A couple years ago I used the body during a snowstorm. Suddenly the shutter actuation button no longer allowed the AF to focus. Switching to BBF was fine and worked perfectly. But when the shutter button was programmed to AF the lens, the lens barely moved. I followed the directions exactly. The issue is now resolved. :) Here I incorrectly assumed moisture must have corroded something down in the shutter actuation button mechanism. Thanks for the tip!

That makes sense... it sounds like you are depleting any residual charge in the camera. That could fix strange things that are stuck like an issue with the shutter button. I have never used it on a camera before.

Even if you don't believe it, no harm in trying! Oz

Lol. It was an inside joke, Brent. He originally posted this to me in the thread I started about my autofocus not working. I tried it, and it worked! So when I then saw he put the suggestion up as a separate topic here, I feigned indignation for the fun of it. I'm actually very grateful for the tip, and unbelievably surprised that it works! :)

Peter, MERRY CHRISTMAS and THANK YOU. My Tamron 150-600mm was not autofocusing, it would hunt and not focus on my subject correctly. Followed the steps you gave and all is OK now.

House about a mile plus. Birds about 60 feet.

Thanks for the idea. It didn't work but this is what I am thinking...that something like this will reset my camera.
