Which AF area mode with BBF?

I’ve set up my D5600 for BBF, AF-C is chosen in focus mode of course. Which auto-focus area mode is preferable out my choices: single point, dynamic-area 9 points, dynamic area 21 points, dynamic area 39 points, 3D tracking, or auto area AF. I really like BBF, but I’m not sure which of these AF area modes is preferable.

Once I got past BBF not meaning something else...

It depends on what you like to shoot. If you do mostly still photography and portraits, you don't have much need for 3D tracking for example. Auto Area AF can be wonky, so I would avoid it as well. Others may like this mode.

This guide from Nikon may help you make a choice.

Have you watched Steve Perry's video on BBF? It shows differences between the focus point settings so you can see how they work. Just for fun, put your body into 3D focus and aim towards a moving creek. That point will go crazy running all over inside the viewfinder. :beguiled:
