Photo books - who to use?

I had an exchange student that headed home. During his time here I took pictures documenting his trip. I would like to order a hardback photo book that I can put short captions with.

Anyone had a book done like this? What company did you use?

Thank you in advance.

George, I haven't used any so don't have any firsthand suggestions. But are you aware Lightroom has a Book Module built into it? You can set up your own templates and add text. I *think* it works with the website Blurb.com so am not sure the templates can be used on any other site.

In the past I remember reading how Blurb also sells a softcover publication similar to a magazine. At the time, they cost about $10 each. Only mentioning it in case you'd want to include a few copies for the person to share with family/friends.

Here's a little info on using Lightroom to make books via Blurb:

I can't speak Lightroom. LOL, when I open it I sit there and scream, WHAT IS IT DOING! JUST LET ME EDIT A PHOTO! {Close and uninstall}

In the past, I thought I remembered seeing you post some photos that reminded me of the Lightroom templates. So I've always been under the impression you used it. No doubt you will find something suitable! :)

Printique

They're owned by Adorama and the quality is amazing. They have lay flat binding, which is very nice for photography albums. Lots of fonts to choose from, several album sizes and paper qualities. Can't recommend them enough.

Another option out there for this is LuLu.com, a print-on-demand publishing service.

It is a place to self-publish whatever book or other item you create. They have photo book options. I have used it in past years to create calendars that I would buy a batch myself and give away as Christmas gifts. I also tried to offer them for sale to the public with really no actual sales to speak of. The reason I give this as an option is because you can purchase 1 book and give it away, but then direct anybody who wants their own copy to your store and they can buy it (at cost if you set it up that way) and have it direct-shipped to them and you don't need to be involved at all.

You mean a photo album? You can just do everything in an electronic version. I've seen the ... gallery, and it looks cool. You can also do this in the electronic version and in the regular version. When my daughter had her birthday, I emailed her an album of her childhood photos. She called us in tears and thanked us. So I think that the electronic version is much more convenient than a photo album. Also, the photos you add to the electronic photo album can be processed, and they will look better.

Hi Amanda3. Why don't you introduce yourself in the New Members section and tell us a little bit about your photography experience and interests?

We've seen a familiar pattern here where spammers reply to an old thread using a new name, and then reply to that again using a different name, but include a suggestion to go to an outside site. Ie: spam. So if you'd introduce yourself, it would go a long way to letting us know you're legit. Thanks!
