Nikon D3200 Memory Slot Error

Hello,

I have a new Nikon D3200 (only used three times) and I was wondering if anyone has any tips for me.

I have been unable to use the camera because every time I put a memory card in the slot I get the error message, "Memory card is locked, slide lock to write position". I have made sure that the memory card is not actually locked, and tried three other memory cards all read the same.

Is there a way to fix this, or do I need to take this in to someone to get it fixed? When looking into the memory card slot it appears that the furthest left metal sensor seems raised up, is that normal?

Thank you for any help!

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong section!

If you look down into the sd card slot, the pin on the side opposite from the lock switch is closer to you. Its also obscured by the spring lock mechanism. Not sure if that is what you are seeing. Anyway, moving on to the lock switch. Its not an electrical switch. When the slider is in the lock position, it presses on a little piece of metal on the side of the track in the socket and tells the camera its locked. Its almost unnoticeable. If it is noticeable, it might be bent. Not good of course. Also see if you see any crap in there that might interfere with the switch. If you don't see anything bent and don't see any pocket lint, I think I would aggressively plug the card in and out a dozen times or so. Try it with the card locked and unlocked. Only do this when you have resigned yourself to the fact that its broken and you need to get it repaired anyway. It might just be stuck and a little aggression on the card might loosen it up.

Welcome! If it is under warranty don't mess with it. If not do you have another camera to compare the slot to? That would give you an idea of how the slot should look.

So I did some looking and I think that's the problem. It seems that the metal piece that goes where the lock would be on the SD card is raised and I can see it bent up. This is beyond my personal scope of fixing right?

Yeh, I think you'll need to send it in. It probably won't be cheap, they will likely just replace the whole circuit board its attached to.

If that is the case, maybe the OP can contact Nikon thru their web site and find out if they can give an estimate before sending in the body.
