I need to get a standard lens which will take ordinary photos from a few feet away. I was sold a wide angle lens which is useless for things directly in front of me. Please can someone suggest a good lens, make and model please.

Sabrerich, what body are you using? DX or FX? And are you looking for a zoom or prime lens? Budget? There are a number of options available, but knowing this info will be helpful in narrowing down your choices. :)

From your profile, I see that you have a D7500 and a Tamron 70-300mm lens. If your budget will allow it, a Tamron 24-70mm would be a great match.

I think @aroy suggestions were pretty good for work say around your house such as family shots, etc. You do list a 70-300 telescopic lens which is good for things like wildlife shots so the 33 DX or 50 FX would work for you. @Bikerbrent also suggested another alternative that would give you a little more flexibility. Give us more of what you are really wanting to shoot and that will also help in the suggestions.

Hi

thank you for your reply.

my camera is a Nikon D750 DX format sensor. I’m a complete novice where photography is concerned but am learning.

I use use the camera for taking photographs of my local football team and they are published in the sports section of the papers. I have a. Wide angle lens which I rarely use and the 70-300mm zoom.

i need a bog standard lens to just take ordinary shots. Budget is variable depending on quality.

I like my Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 macro. It isn't a true macro lens, but you can get pretty close with it. I am not sure what your budget is, but these won't break the bank, and you can find them used. They are about $500 new, but they are easy to find in good used condition for much cheaper. Mine was a used lens. Works just fine.

I would agree with Dawg Pics on the Tamron 28-75 f2.8. I have had one for years that I use on both DX and FX. It is a versatile lens that performs well. Th

Hi.

There is a typo in that sentence, and it's important. The D750 is an FX full-frame camera. The D7500 is a DX crop-sensor camera. The difference is important. I assume you have the D7500.

It's difficult to recommend a lens because "budget is variable" and "ordinary shots" is too arbitrary. Are you willing to spend $1000? $2000? And for ordinary shots of what? Buildings, flowers, landscapes, people, cars? If you can be more specific about what you want to do, you will get better suggestions.

My guess is that a lens like the Nikon 35mm 1.8G DX or the Nikon 50mm 1.8G FX would be a good place to start. The 50mm is a classic lens for photographers to start with.
