Hi , during a major Spring clear out I came across a shoe box with several hundred 35mm slides I took in the 80s 90s , thought they had been accidentally discarded during our house move 12 years ago
ordered a viewer that converts to digital , comes today can't wait , most will be of my daughter , lots probably not been seen , a quick look they seem clear , a few that were not packaged have ,I think mould on them any suggestions to clean them , will post any interesting ones , well excited

My Mom sent me a huge box with slides dating back to the 60s. I bought the Nikon ES-2 tool and went through a couple of boxes of slides with my D700 and a Nikon 60mm f2.8 D. It is really cool looking at these slides and editing the RAW files that I take into LR are cool to play with. I have not been able to mess with it since my wife has been ill.

If the slides are mounted in glass frames, you'll have to remount them in frames without any glass to get good results.

Good resource and technique to use.
When we were tasked to do this we'd offer first to scan the slides _as they were_, this insured the fidelity of a set of scans, only then would we clean them.
98% alcohol was deemed a hazardous substance so that didn't last. We made one attempt to demount and re-wash some slides. The process was very clumsy, handling the film chips was a true PITA. And washing and drying them needed special handling equipment - we used "strip" processing hangers.
The results weren't worth the effort. The mold had eaten away the imagery and rebuilding even the best of them was another PITA.
