Cool aperture effects

I've got a photo competition that I need to shoot for over the summer. Just a little local show.

One of the topics this year is "aperture". I've was thinking of doing something funky with a wide open or tight aperture setting. Any funky techniques I might be able to try?

All tips welcome.

The other classes are a bit more interesting than last year, looking forward to reviewing old photos and taking new ones for them

Thanks both

Thanks, kind of looks like the photo equivalent of shakycam but cool effects nonetheless. I'm struggling to figure out the compatibility chart. I'd be looking to fit to a D5100, do I need a second intermediate attachment?

How about taking some starburst shots of some lights at night

This is with very high f numbers correct? I did see this doing some research. I was going to give it a try. I'll have to get on with it as it's quite light in the evening now!

If you want cheesy aperture shapes, you don't need to buy anything. Just use a lens with a wide aperture and cut any shape you want out of black paper.

With starbursts you'll need to experiment. Some lenses produce the best star at f/8, beyond which the star's spokes get shorter and dimmer. Some lenses are best at f/22. Try your own lens' behavior.

No... They make their lenses for Nikon mounts. The aperture inserts are just little magnetic screens that fit in front of their manual apertures... The whole affair is manual exposure and manual focus.
