Sigma 150-500mm

Hi all, I bought a second hand 150-500 mm sigma lens to use with my d7200, was all fine but all of a sudden weird stuff is happening. The autofocus doesn't want to work, if I take it off and back on again sometimes it comes back to life but it might take several times before it works. I've looked at the mount and can't see anything that screams wrong or broken and basically I'm scratching my head and getting frustrated. Anybody have any ideas on what to do or shall I contact sigma and see if they can do anything?

Please note this is on other sites as well

Ok here's an update from this evening, I've cleaned the contacts and it appears a bit better but I have noticed that there is some play between the body and lens which is not evident on my other lenses. As long as it's turned a certain way it works. Is there anything that could improve this or am I safe to continue using it?

i had this (some play) with my 50-500 sigma, a $1 small glasses screwdriver kit and i tightened the screws on the metal mounting plate ever so slightly, never had the problem again.

Thanks for the advice, it doesn't seem loose like that but I will definitely try that when I finish work.

Hi - not sure if this is helpful, but I too have a Sigma 150-500 DG which no longer kicks in on AF. Its attached to my D610 (4 months old) and was fine until I updated to firmware v1.02

The lens AF kicks in on my D3200 so the lens is fine, and I have a Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8D which is fine on the D610

Nikon wont help, so have mailed Sigma to see if this is a known issue post-firmware issue. Nikon also say I cant over-ride v1.02 with a download of v1.01 - is this true?

Hi Mike - thanks for the response, as it happens your answer just beat the response from Sigma and they confirm that the lens needs an update and needs to be sent off

Wonder if that may help with gunnerhedge's original issue?

Cheers

Quick update - as my lens was out of warranty Sigma charge £41.99 but they have turned it around in 24 hours ... just waiting for UPS to deliver now

The moral to this story, is I will NOT run Nikon updates until I can confirm it will NOT cause a problem with my third party lenses, flashes, etc. and that I really need to fix what the update corrects (i.e. If it ain't broke, don't fix it).
