Need to upgrade

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.

Before we can provide any meaningful answers, we need some more information from you.

1. What kind of photography do you typically do (i.e. action, portraits, landscape, street, etc.)?

2. What is your budget?

3. What lenses do you currently own?

4. What do you want to do that you can't do well with your current camera?

You also need to understand that just upgrading to a more expensive camera will NOT make you a better photographer. The D5000 is a capable camera and if you are generally up-happy with your current photos, your time and money might be better spent on photography classes, books, tutorials, better lenses, or better accessories like flash units, tripods, post processing software, etc.

Welcome to the forum Lisa,
What traits of the D5000 are causing problems and what is you favorite subjects? Upgrades of camera bodies are usually less productive than lighting and lens so what lenses do you have now and do you use augmented lighting/modifiers? Can you post a photo that demonstrates the reason your want to upgrade?

Any of the current lineup on Nikon DSLR's could be a good upgrade. But more info would be helpful to narrow down which model would suit you best.

Howdy Lisa and welcome to Nikonites!

Without know much about what type of photography you're into, the obvious upgrade from the D5000 would be the D5600. There are other reasons why a change to the D7x00 could make more sense as well, but it's hard to get more specific without more specifics.

I agree with the others, it really depends what you are needing or wanting. I will just point out the two dslr upgrade paths. Heading down the d5x00 path gets you more camera tech in a very similar package to what you are now using, a menu based system. Heading down the d7x00 path (or jumping to full frame) gets you a different user interface. Less menu use for changing everyday settings. More button and wheel use so you can quickly change things as you shoot. Front and rear command wheels for those quick adjustments, a top lcd display so you can quickly see the current state of the camera. The d7x00's also have a focus motor so they can use some older lenses.

No activity from the OP since this thread was created despite several requests for more information so I would guess they have moved on. There have been a rash of new posters of late with strange problems or requests who post and you never hear from them again.
