buying new laptop

That looks like it should do the job. Two things you need to look at though is.
1. External drives to store your photos on
2. Ability to run a second monitor.

256 GB is not a lot of room for photos so keep all of them on a external drive.

Laptop monitors are not known to the that good so get a external monitor to processing when you can.

He's right you know.

Looks like it has enough horsepower for post processing.
Check how many USB ports it has. You'll need all you can get.

The only flaw I noticed was it comes with Windows 10.
That's another argument for another time.

i7 processor is good
16GB of RAM is good
SSD boot drive is good
4K monitor is good.
Built in SD card and HDMI port are good.

256GB of SSD is a little downer, but use an external drive as Don suggested.

Seems like a suitable replacement for one of my MacBook Pros, if I was looking for a new laptop.

From all the reviews I've read the display is "stunning" "fantastic" "crisp and sharp". I believe 4k monitors are fairly new to the laptop, so I'm hoping it is suitable to display my photos. Which is really my main concern!! The resolution is 3840x2560 and the pixel count per inch is ridiculously high. Can someone on the forum who has a 4k laptop reply to this thread. Don't mean you guys without one are not welcome. 1000 dollars is a lot of money for me but I regret that I don't have a means of displaying my photos when I go to a friends house etc. Paul

One thing that I might miss is a DVD/CD drive in this setup.
Most laptops quit integrating CD/DVD drives. You have to purchase them as a side. They aren't very expensive.

I would like to recommend OP to take a look at one of the Asus brands. I bought one and the resolution is phenomenal.

I also would like to give @tea2085 a shoutout since I don't believe he lives that far from Syberiacuse, NY, where I met my wife and we have lived for over 25 years before moving back south closer to where I'm from. If Red Creek is near Syracuse, I hope you haven't had to shovel too much or plow, snowblow, etc.

It is rare that you need one now. Most of the programs I have that are on CD I can also download them off the internet anyway and generally have to anyway to get the latest version. You can get one for under $20 on Amazon if you still want/need one

I'd like to ask sonic buffalo if his laptop has a worthy monitor to display his precious photos?
The weather has been fine- only got two feet in the last 48hrs. Siberiacuse (LOL) got a little bit more! Paul

Hi Paul.....I use the same monitor that came with the Asus laptop....the colors and sharpness are point on. I really love my laptop. I mention it because I bought it at Best Buy too. They're awesome! I was going to buy an Apple, but the price scared me away and when I saw the resolution was as good or better on the Asus compared to the very expensive Apple, I bought the Asus. It's been cold here in North Carolina too.....we had a high temp. of 38 yesterday....lows in the lower 20's. @tea2085

This laptop has only 2 usb ports- why would i need more than that? Paul

My MacBook Pros only have 2 USB ports. Hasn't been a problem.

I use a lot more than that on my desk station ... for charging devices and multiple external drives, but for mobile editing it shouldn't be a problem.

Looking forward to your review! Apple may have finally convinced me to look elsewhere with the latest "innovations", and what you're looking at looks promising!

That's what I did, as hard as it was I ordered a new desktop this week. Mac Pro lasted 8 years but I decided to go back to the dark side with the below.

Asus - G11CD Desktop - Intel Core i5 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 - 512GB Solid State Drive + 1TB

It will serve its purpose and I should be able to recover my drives, fingers crossed.
