Hello Nikonites,

Just wondering if any of you have had the experience of capturing the Milky Way during winter months (moab area) ?

I heard is not as bright as it is in the summer..

Thoughts ? Advices ?

Thanks a million,
G

There is a app for your Smart phone called PhotoPills that will give you a view of the night sky and show you where everything is including the Milky Way You can adjust for time to show you will it will be visible and where. I am in Alabama and when I look now the part that is the brightest is below the horizon for most of the night Starts to rise just a little while before sunrise. I just set the location for Moab UT and you might be able to get a decent shot around 6am it will be low but there are locations in Arches that should be pretty good

It's not as good in the winter. The orientation of the earth causes the larger mass of the Milky Way to be over the horizon.

I use the free program Stellarium.org It shows you where everything is at any given date time so you can plan your night photography trips.
