Renting a wide-angle for my vacation

So me and my girlfriend are heading to the UK in early September (our flight is the day after my birthday actually.) We're going to be in London, England for about 5 days and Edinburgh, Scotland for about 4. Naturally, I feel the need t bring a wide-angle lens and while I have my 18-105mm walkaround lens, I don't feel like it's wide enough. After doing a bit of research I"ve decided to rent the Sigma 10-20mm lens. From what I can see, it has great quality and if I decide to buy one after my trip I won't be spending a lot of money as it's pretty well-priced.

What do you guys think? Good choice? Any better ideas?

The Sigma 10-20mm is a very good choice, especially considering the price-point. If money was no object I'd suggest the Nikon 10-24mm and I'm not all that hot on Nikon glass, necessarily.

Yeah, over the last few months I've become convinced that when it comes time to upgrade my lenses I'm far better off getting third-party lenses, especially Sigma. Sigma is killing it.

Sigma IS killing it... Over and over again in my opinion. My two Sigma Art Series primes are un-freaking-believable and you can have my Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Getting back to UWA's for a second, I think the Nikon is the better lens of these two, but I also think it's also over-priced for what you're getting (typical for Nikon glass, IMO). I think you'd be very happy with the Sigma 10-20mm should you decide to go that route.

I think I will be too. I would rather sacrifice a slight advantage in quality for a much more reasonable price.

Just curious as to why you'd rather rent that buy.Surely this won't be the only time you'll want to use a quality wide-angle lens?

Probably not, but I don't know how often I would use it outside of trips like this. I'd rather not buy one and then leave it sitting around for a long period of time collecting dust.

Rent a Tokina 11-16 or any of the f/2.8 wide angle lenses they offer now. Solid as tank and the IQ is to die for. Or, just rent a D810 and a Nikon 14-24mm:encouragement:

You could also use that logic as a push to get out and shoot more photos! :)

Good luck in whatever decision you make, by the way.
I could. First I'm going to see how much I enjoy using a wide angle lens. Haha

I love mine @xIDeMoNiclx. I bought it this spring and use it a lot for landscape and architecture. I bought the Sigma 10-20 f/3.5 and have not been disappointed.
