AE Locking when using back button focussing

I use back button focussing all the time, with my AE lock button assigned for this purpose. However, I can't figure out how I can also lock the exposure when I need to, since the AE lock button is no longer available.

I suspect that there's a simple answer to this, but so far it escapes me.

In the custom menu settings, since you are using BBF you can choose to use your Shutter to lock focus by pressing it halfway down. It is C1.

Thanks Danno, but I'm not having a problem with focussing, it's exposure lock that I'm trying to achieve. If I'm using my AE-L/AF-L button for back-button focussing, then it's not available to use for exposure locking. What I'm trying to do is continue using BBF, but also be able to lock exposure when necessary. At present I can use BBF to lock the focus, then recompose the shot, which is great. However, I would also like to be able to lock the exposure before recomposing. Does that make sense?

I just figured out the answer. If I assign the FN button as 'AE Hold' (f2 in the menu), it does exactly what I want. I can now use BBF to lock the focus point and the FN button to lock the exposure

I think I wasn't explaining it very clearly, but problem solved.

Yes it does...I use back bbf too. C1 "Shutter - release button AE-L" when you click the question in the menu is says... "Choose whether the exposure locks when the shutter-release button is pressed half way"

When you use BBF this is how you are able to still use AE-L. Here is a screen shot from a manual I bought for my D7200

It looks as if there are several ways to come at this issue. You just need to fully understand all those menu options!

Or you could use manual mode and set your own exposure. Lol! ;)
