EN-EL3e batteries

My D90 with the MB-D80 fitted and two fully charged (well the charger light isn't blinking) are only showing up as being 97% charged. They are both Nikon batteries and not that old. Is this normal or should I leave them on the charger for longer?

Thanks

Some batteries will not ever fully charge to the design specifications. I would't worry about it unless they discharge too quickly. What level of service life does it show that they have?

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it; unless they're draining unusually fast. I actually have the opposite situation from you. I have a Nikon battery that never shows "charged" in the charger but comes up as 100% in the camera.

It doesn't take long for lithium batteries to start losing their max charge. In practical terms you probably won't notice that 3% difference.

I just recycled one that was down to ~70% at max, but it was also ~4 years old. Oddly enough, I have one that's a few months older that still recharges to above 90%. And I switch between them every charge, so they were both used about the same amount. This just shows they wear out at different rates.

Nikon D90 Battery Drain - During Video Only

Hello,

I am getting into VLogging and have the Rode Go External Mic for good audio quality.
I have the following cameras.
1. Nikon AW 130 – Point and Shoot, Weather Proof camera with Built-In-Mic.
a. No support for externa mic makes audio an issue.

2. Nikon D90 – DX Format camera – Provision to attach external mic
With LiveView on my battery drains in just 5 mins.
Lack of auto focus for video – requires me constantly adjust as per subject.
That defeats video for a Vlog set up

3. Nikon D810 – FX Format camera – Provision to attach external mic
Too big for a VLOG
I would rather use it purely for high end photography

I am particularly interested to know about D90 and D810 for the Vlog Set up
Why does a D90 battery drain this fast for video – is something wrong with my battery?
D90 for photoshoots works just fine, as I use manual focus and LiveView off. It lasts through the day.

I dont wish to invest in a new battery if its an inherent problem with the D90 while shooting videos.

Please advise.
Thank you so much.
