I would go the D4 for what you are describing you need it for.

It is what it is designed to do and believe me when I say it does it very very well.

If you were more studio work or landscapes, I would suggest the D810...

It depends upon the condition of the D4, as far as I'm concerned; but given the use you have described, I'd lean very far towards the D4.

I have heard some issues with the D4 af system.. The perfect all around camera is the D750..$1896 new right now. D810 is a specialty camera for Portraits, Studio, and landscape.

I think what works against the D810 is purely its file sizes. It requires fast cards to handle that load but in terms of AF I notice little difference with my D750.

Never shot a D4 so I would not know how it compares to that.

The only issues I have ever had with focus, is when you are looking into bright sunlight - it can really struggle to pick up the focus point. But other than that, both of my D4's have lightning fast, VERY reliable focus.

It's kind of a push... Used D4 completed auctions on eBay go for $2800-$3200... The relatively low shutter count puts it in the $3200-$3400 range...

New D810 is going for $2300

Is that for grey market? most reputable dealers are more like $2800, just curious if I am missing a good price.

You'd be wrong. Many Nikon dealers have an eBay store... B&H Photo, Adorama, Robert's Camera etc... eBay is just another market place for bricks & mortar stores...
