I promise my last question , I have have an 18-55mm lens and another lens 75-240mm "g" for my D5000. I want to get the 55-300mm afs for it. Seeing the prices on ebay for a D70s = $100 or so. Should I get that and hunt for old glass. Aka I've seen a 70-300mm"G" for $99. Or just concentrate on "good" glass with the body I have? I mean for $200 give or take, I could get a D70s body with 70-300mm autofucus motor built in so not an issue. Or get the 55-300mm and use the current body? IM ON A BUDGET !

thanks,

as everyone knows, the g lens is manual f

Though I like older tech and love my D300 and D700, I think unless you can move up to a D90, D300 or D7000 that you might be better staying with the D5000. The built-in focus motor is a big plus, but dropping down to about 6 MPs would be a big negative in my opinion. If it were me I'd save up for a D90, D300 or D7000 and then look for good nikon af-d glass.
But the buying of nikon af-s 55-300mm lens and then upgrading your model later someday to say a D5100 or newer is also a good way to go! :)

I have two older D70 bodies, and while they are good cameras, the newer tech makes the D5000 a better camera. I'd go for glass, and when you can afford it, a more advanced, newer body. Just my 2 cents.

I can't honestly answer this question. The D5000 and D200 both have their points, but I can't say which you would like better. I don't think you would be upgrading really, just gaining a few pro style perks and a lower MPs. @fotojack might be able to advise you on the D200 better than I can! :)

it's like 2 steps forward and one step backwards, and I wouldn't be saving money on an older body with with the af motor. Because i will lose way too much in low light aka iso and sensor??????

I would use, the D70s in broad daylight, sorry for that. Isso wouldn't be an issue. But the bonus of older cheapr lens I LIKEE !

and the price of lens nowadays, is it possible? Or don't get into this game at all from the start

I went older to get those af-d lenses along with the easier to use pro style setup! But going too far back in tech might make you like your finished work less! I didn't go below 12 MPs on my Nikon body choices, and if you plan on printing any of your work, I would recommend not going below 10 MPs!

I guess I'm getting old, since I didn't understand some of that! Lol but how large you can make a print depends on more than just pixels, but on sharpness clarity and such. But if all is good the D5000 should be able to make prints up to about 20" x 30" I would think! Just my guess! :)

Lucien, if you are on a budget, just use the lenses you have for now and then save money to buy the lens you want later. You will be changing 4 quarters for a dollar if you think that getting a longer telephoto zoom will make you take better pictures, or getting a newer camera with more megapixels will make you be more creative.

Sorry, but it just doesn't work that way. Sometimes people see some fantastic shots done by a pro photographer and then think that if they had that lens or camera they could do just like that. But photography is both an art and a technique. You could have all the tools and not be an artist. Your best investment for now (this is my point of view and does not involve Nikonites in any way) is that you should just keep practicing, reading as many photography books (specially older books that cover film photography and printing) to really learn how and why some techniques work in some cases and why they don't in others.

If you get caught in the "I need this cam or lens" way of thinking, you'll forever be searching instead of practicing. Just take more pictures, even if they are not great, take more, and more. Only experience teaches and it's really true that practice makes perfect.

Happy shooting until your budget is better to get the really great stuff that is way more expensive than the bargains on ebay.
