Hello,

I know there are tons of articles about touring Moab and its surrounding areas. But, i would like to hear the thoughts and advices from nikonites, the experts ;).

So, any points of interests ? Sunset, Sunrise shoots, hikes?

Camping/Lodging ?

Do I really need a 4x4 willys jeep ?

How many days do i need ?

Thanks for your help,
G

Sorry I disappeared. Photo shoot for the last couple days and I'm exhausted. Dragged myself out of bed long enough to eat something, get back to your thread, and drink a beer. Fortunately for you I'm not through the beer yet so you haven't fallen off my short list of three tonight. :)

No you don't need to have a Jeep to get places, however, it will really open up opportunities. But, I might suggest renting a Razor in town. They are a bit pricey, but you can move so much faster out on the trail with far less risk of breakage.

My beer is gone, I must head to bed now and will come back to this thread. Good night.

Popping back in for a moment while batch processing 1500+ photos.

Lighting will be everything. In the early morning and evening hours the lighting really makes the color of the Red Rock pop. During the day it's just too harsh.

What are your plans relative to getting around? Just hiking or maybe a Jeep/Razor? If it includes Jeeps/Razor I strongly suggest purchasing the Moab book from these guys - Jeeps or ATV's depending if one of these two options is part of your plan.

When I was doing the off-roading magazine we reviewed these books and have used them for more than ten years.

I'll be back later. Feel free to keep adding questions and thoughts.

Good Morning, the following is so far what i would like:
1. Photograph iconic sites: sunrise or sunset
2. Where the iconic sites are located ?
3. Can you do it on your own or will be better to have someone with you ?
4. I think renting The Razor is the way to go.
5. Any wildlife ?
6. Is camping an option ?

Those are my questions so far.

Thanks for your help,

do a search in "flickr" for photo locations. I do this when i visit a new area. Photo locations are tagged on a map, makes it nice to see where a lot of photos are taken. Enjoy your trip, you will soon be seeing red in your sleep.

If you happen to find yourself a little farther south (southern Utah) Valley of the Gods would fit all your requirements, plus it's all BLM land.
A little farther south is Monument Valley for Iconic Western vistas.
