Printing your photos..............

I have a older HP all in one PSC that does pretty good 4 x 6 on photo stock. I'm thinking of stepping up to a "large format" 13 x 19 printer.
Any suggestions ? I've found some nice ones on Amazon and at the local office supply stores.
Where do you get good photo paper this size??

I have a 13x19 printer and it will print good photos. The problem is that each brand of photo paper requires a different setup. Unless you are willing to except a less and great photo then it is really cheaper and better to actually send your photos out for printing.

I have a Canon Pixma 9000 Mk II 13x19 and it does a tremendous job. It is also very affordable but make sure you have lots of desk space available because it is a very large printer. It uses a total of 8 ink cartridges. I DO NOT get Canon ink cartridges, they are $15 a piece. There are lots of cheaper alternatives.

I dispensed with all of that color profiles nonsense and treated a piece of printer paper just like I would a piece of color paper in the dark room. I found a gray scale image on the web and started printing it out. I made corrections CMY like I would any other color paper with my Color Analyzer until I got the color right. I have not had to mess with it since.

I have a Canon Pro 9500 Mark II and am pleased with the quality of work it produces, but it is an ink pig. have sent work out in the past but do not do so anymore. I too much enjoy having the entire process in my hands. I take the photo, I edit the photo, I select the paper, I print the photo, and I mat and frame. the photo. Is that obsessive? Probably, but that is the way i do it and I'm not much given to changing my mind.

How often are you printing? I ask because I remember the days of printing my own and if I was not printing regularly then the ink heads would dry and not print as they should or at some point something would be making a line in the photo like something was dragging. I finally quite printing because it was so often a headache and I always wondered if it had more to do with not printing often enough.

With the Pixma, it primes each head at the start of each new printing session. I have gone a month between printing and not seen any drying out of heads

Same here but every time it primes the heads it seems to be using ink. I try and print at least once a week but don't always manage to do so. I am pleased with the Pixma series and it is good to know that Canon can make a product that i am willing to use.
