Latest Show, Syracuse Nationals

I'm in my sixth year now of selling prints, latest show is at the NYS fairgrounds for the Syracuse Nationals car event. I've posted several threads in the past and still going strong. I've weeded out many shows in my area and do a select few now, after many I know which ones pay off the most. This is my first time at this show and its going great. My setup,

Glad to see you are still doing some of the sales. I remember you had some machinery images (cars, tractors, etc) that did well with sales. It's difficult to see the various subjects pictured here. What topics would you say are the most popular? Machinery, landscapes, or something else?

Where do you get the majority of your frames? I found Walmart tends to carry some decorative yet inexpensive frames. And Target now carries some nice ones, too, instead of the usual mundane black ones they had.

Are any of these metal prints or are they paper prints wrapped in plastic (the ones not in frames)? If they are metal, I'm just curious about the quality--I've never even seen a metal print in person from one of the printing companies.

I miss your activity here since you switched to mirrorless but am glad you didn't leave altogether. I was thinking about you the other day...I wanted to get another large camera bag, but the Tamrac Pro 12 is no longer made. You mentioned getting one after I posted about it a few years ago. Tamrac was bought over by another company since then, and although they still make bags under the Tamrac name, they aren't quite the same. I wound up getting a Tamrac Stratus 21 which is their largest bag. There are small differences. My preference is still the original Tamrac bags, but this one I got will work fine. They still use the divider system, but it seems to be a slightly different material. And the exterior has subtle changes, too. I only use these large bags to store extra gear and items, not to carry with me. When I'm out and about, I have the original Tamrac Pro 8. Or I'll simply carry a Think Tank holster with a camera/lens combo. You might have been the one who posted about those holsters years ago. ;) I have a few of them now and find they are quite handy.

Good luck with your sales. :)

Hello Cindy!

I'm still lurking, waiting for Nikon to release a larger mirrorless!

I find there really isn't a standout category that is the most popular, no matter what the subject of the show might be. Surprisingly, wildlife shots sold the most at this show followed by trains. I find you always need a wide variety and duplicates of your best sellers, I actually have about 800 prints in my inventory (I bring about 200 to shows and restock as needed).

My favorite Frame shop is AC Moore now, I buy when they run 50% off sales so they are decent and reasonably priced. I have also picked some up at walmart, sometimes I wipe out the ones I like at AC Moore if I do well. I generally stick to heavy wide black frames as they go with anything. I'll have to check out Target.

I only buy non-color corrected lustre prints from Nations. Metal prints are expensive and I hate carry something around until it sells, you have to mark them up a lot to make any money, so they don't move quickly. My market is the beer and pizza crowd, not wine and cheese :). I say that because the guys I see fail don't know their market or want to be thought of as something they are not. I put the prints in crystal sleeves and chipboard which I get from Matboardsplus (look for free shipping sales about twice a year).

I still have the large Tamrac and really enjoy it along with the Thinktank holsters, They hold more now that I'm shooting M3/4's! I picked this up last year, very thick leather retro bag and really like it (more on style than protection!)

Seams like Tamrac has abandoned the traditional bags.

Happy shooting!
